Nicholas Mariani, the 24-year-old grandson of Lakers CEO Frank Mariani, died on Wednesday following what the Lakers called a “serious single-car accident” that happened on Sunday morning.

Frank Mariani was the longtime business partner of later Lakers owner Jerry Buss , both whom initially worked together in real estate in the 1950′s before eventually purchasing the Los Angeles Strings and San Diego Friars, respectively, of World Team Tennis.

The rest of Mariani’s family have other roles with the Lakers. Nicholas was the son of Associate Director of the Lakers Youth Foundation Roberta Mariani, nephew of Director of Corporate Partnerships Francis Mariani, and brother of Development Coordinator Anthony Mariani. Nicholas, who was also considered a Lakers employee, had two sisters.

The Lakers say funeral services are pending.

Condolences to the Mariani family and friends. R.I.P. Nicolas Mariani.

RIP.  Sorry to hear that :(

"Bryant had come to rage against the idea that Howard's clownish disposition could overtake the locker room, the Lakers' culture, and had warned Howard that he would never, ever let it happen."

How very sad...to lose a longtime friend and business partner of over 40 years and then a grandson a year later. Too much.

Wishing the family comfort in this time.

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health (a special 20th season, like he deserves), 2. Draft Picks Ballin (they better. Seems half the team hasnt played in league) 3. Miracle Move (We still need 2 more impact guys, but Bass and Lou are solid moves), 4. Hibbert (trimming down, change of scenery and attitude sorely needed) 5. Upshaw (If he works out, mitch and jim and ryan deserve major kudos as the risk is minimal). Staples (some renewed energy in that building, been a total morgue last couple years)

Yet another cautionary tale.

Don't drive sleepy (an assumption in this case, because it was 4 in the morning).  Don't drive under the influence.

Sorry this young man lost his life and sad for the grieving family left behind, but I'm most thankful that no one else was injured by his selfish and dangerous actions.
