He will be the best dressed Laker. Sort of like Riley but without the slicked back hair. Count it!

In 2002, Byron Scott huddled his team and showed everybody his first ring and said "we will all win out first one in here."

pretty powerful, too bad Lakers owned them.

Mitch Kupchak: "After an extensive and thorough search, we're proud to welcome Byron back to the Lakers family as our next head coach."

"Byron has proven himself at the highest levels of the game as both a player and a coach in his almost 30 years of NBA experience."

Kupchak: "His leadership skills and track record for success make him the ideal person to lead this franchise forward."

Byron Scott: "I am ecstatic to once again be a Laker and to have the opportunity to work alongside Mitch and the Buss family."

Scott: "I know firsthand what it takes to bring a championship to this city."

Scott: "As someone who both grew up in L.A. and played the majority of my career here, I know how passionate and dedicated our fans are."

Scott: "I will give everything I have to fulfill the championship expectations our supporters have for us, and that we have for ourselves."

Interesting. According to Rotoworld, the Lakers were 2nd in the league in isolation defense and had the best defense in pick-and-rolls against the roll man. They were however one of the easiest teams to get an offensive rebound against, which was to be expected. Check out the report here.

His brilliant coaching? He rotated nearly every player onto Kobe to stop him. No one was going to have any success doing so that night.

who will be on his staff?

Currently the Lakers have Johnny Davis, hired under D'Antoni last summer, still under contract for the coming season. Teams often let assistants out of their contracts to change jobs and Davis has been linked to Lionel Hollins of the Brooklyn Nets, but as of now he's a part of Scott's staff.

Player development coaches Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis are also both under contract, recently co-coaching the Lakers' summer league squad in Las Vegas. The pair may be likely to stick around, at least for Scott's debut season.

Dan D'Antoni, an assistant last season, left about a week before his brother Mike gave notice, choosing to coach at Marshall University.

Scott's former teammate with the Showtime Lakers Kurt Rambis, also an assistant last year under D'Antoni, recently departed to join Derek Fisher's staff with the New York Knicks.

According to Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times, via Twitter, former Lakers point guard Gary Payton is a candidate to join Scott's staff.

Paul Pressey, Jamahl Mosley, Joe Prunty and Nate Tibbetts served as Scott's assistants through the 2012-13 season in Cleveland with the Cavaliers.

Tibbetts is on Terry Stotts' staff with the Portland Trail Blazers. Prunty recently joined Jason Kidd's bench with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet analyst Dave Miller was once part of Scott's coaching staff in New Orleans with the Hornets (now Pelicans). It's unclear whether Miller will be invited to step outside of the studio to reunite with Scott.

Apparently Madsen and Larry Lewis have multi-year deals with the team and are expected to be back most likely.
