JVG would be a solid choice. He's been on the sidelines long enough.

Forget that. We don't need him with Kobe.

George Karl is more of a "loser" in terms of his playoff record and before anyone states the kinds of teams Karl didn't have.  Look at our team.  It's not like we're bringing him a three some of LeBron, Carmelo and Kobe.  We'd be a team about as talented as those Nuggets team at our best without the altitude to take advantage of his run and gun style.

JVG would coach but only as an assistant according to him.

In order to satisfy this fanbase, I say the VG Bros.

Who can teach or motivate or impress Kobe though?
Larry Brown and Sloan the only others I can think of.

Uhh yes it does.

Byron Scott is a great coach. When he's not given a lottery team, he's tremendous. He took the Nets to the Finals in back to back seasons and did a great job with the Hornets.

Rambis is okay. There's better options, but in terms of familiarity and preserving a winning formula (Triangle), he would be a good fit.

Any criticism of Shaw is invalid.

Why would we bring in a proven loser like Karl to replace another proven loser? He hasn't done anything in the past, what's he going to do here? Either get a proven coach, or lay your own foundation. It's simple.

By what you were saying about Karl, byron must be a loser. He missed the playoffs 9 times and lost in the first round once. Also your acting like Karl has had all these great teams. He's been dealt [expletive] for most of his career and still made the playoffs 23 out of his 25 seasons. Again he was 1 game away from getting a ring in 09.

I'm up for either of the Van Gundy's, although I'm not sure they'd wanna be a part of this Laker team. JVG is usually cracking jokes at how bad we are on national TV. Lionel Hollins would be great if we had the right personnel, which we don't. Hollins does best with big men obviously, but more importantly, with players that are willing to give up part of their game to coincide with one another - especially on the defensive end.

I'm with those that say bring in some new blood. I'd like to check out the philosophies on some college coaches and current assistant coaches in our league. No, Coach K isn't leaving Duke. Self or any of those big names won't leave either. College coaches usually take time to adjust to the NBA, and would be best used as assistant coaches coming in, then gradually making way toward a head coaching position.

Unfortunately, this is the job I'd wish the Lakers would have given Phil. Should've let Phil decide who should run this team. OBVIOUSLY, Mitch, Jim, or whoever is to blame for the last two coaching hires is not suited to make our next coaching hire. I hope to God that the FO gets a TON of background knowledge and expert opinion before making another change.

Also - get rid of Rambis, and everyone else on that sideline. No one there is doing anything right. I don't care how much power he has or doesn't have, unless Phil is coaching I personally wouldn't want Rambis as an assistant.

He can be a good motivator, but just too old and health problems to deal with a young roster and helping them develop.

Hollins is more for a specific group of players, we literally have nothing in the mold of a physical or well rebounding team, let alone any bigs.

Yeah and let's resign Pau for sure, trade everyone on the team under the age of 25 for guys over the age of 35, and relocate to Brooklyn. Make sure we're at least 100m over the cap too, wouldn't wanna look cheap around all these rich New York folk.
