So according to Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are finally gonna decide who to hire as head coach in a week or 2. Maybe they're taking this long cause Mark Madsen is in the mix. Mad Dog must've impressed Mitch and Jim with his coaching skills at summer league.

I wouldn't hate it. I would rather they get away from the re-treads and bring in a fired up young assistant from somewhere. Go find the next great coach...Portland & Chicago have a couple assistants they should be looking at too.

With how bad the Lakers will be these next years, why not let Madsen gain the experience?

Madsen eh? Oddly, the more I think of it, the less I hate the idea. But to lead the Lakers? I don't know about that. I do like the guy though.

I'd prefer Messina do in part to the fact he would bring a new system and look to the franchise. Not to mention a roll of the dice, which is the best we can hope for given our roster.

Messina won't happen cause he got hired by the Spurs a few weeks ago.

I kinda like the madsen idea just because he is mark madsen.. He is the type of person that you cannot hate no matter what he does.

If he becomes the coach, expect kobe's print all over it. :) hyper coach we have!!!

Wow didn't know Spurs hired Messina yet. They are pretty damn smart in SA. Considering we had Shaq when they won their first title and yet were champs again this year, props to them.

Mark Madsen actually does have coaching experience and is probably more ready to be a coach than the likes of Kidd and Fisher were/are.

After he left the NBA he worked as an assistant coach before going to Stanford and being an assistant coach there.

Phil is actually the one that planted the coaching seed in him like Red planted the seed in Phil all those years ago.

So Madsen is a guy I'd love to see work his way and be a coach for us some day because he is very good at working with players and being a coach.  He obviously needs experience, but I'd love to see him as an assistant next to the coach we hire for a few years.  I guess you could call him our "Shaw".

But he is a guy more 'ready' to coach than some of the other players we've seen get coaching jobs as he was actually an assistant before coming back to coach here.    The players also love him and he actively goes at them in practice as an opposing player while coaching them so I think they respect that.

So I'd say Mark would make a great assistant for us, along with Larry Lewis.

If he becomes the coach, expect kobe's print all over it.  :)

What if I told you the Lakers are on the verge of hiring a coach who was so predictable in schemes that a gambler made millions on it. #Fact

Haralabos Voulgaris, titled "World's top NBA gambler" - ESPN. Made millions gambling on Scott coached teams "It was a joke, it was so easy.”

Kobe has said that he doesn't have any interest in coaching. Plus its against the rules to be player/coach now.

Spurs have hired European legend Ettore Messina as an assistant coach, team says.

The Spurs hiring Messina as their assistant doesn't worry me as much as Popovich just signed a 5 year extension. So he will be another assistant tutored by Pop for a few years before landing a head coaching job. Getting him the experience he'd need. With Pop's extension he's less Pop's replacement and more his assistant.

I don't mind that.
