Popcorn Time Is So Good at Movie Piracy, It’s Scary

One thing that iTunes, Netflix, Amazon and Hulu have proven is that content makers can fight piracy by providing a better, easier service to paying customers. But what happens when piracy fights back with something just as convenient?

A new app called Popcorn Time raises that very question. Available for Windows, Mac and Linux, Popcorn Time lets you stream the latest movies — including American Hustle, Gravity and Frozen – with just a couple clicks. The software uses BitTorrent to find and download movies, but eliminates the usual hassle of wading through sketchy torrent sites and waiting for the file to finish downloading.

Ill still use pirate bay, just cause Im used to it and i'd rather play the movies through vlc player but its an interesting idea.

The biggest problem with it though is I don't get the control like I do with using bittorrent. For instance it says I seed for as long as im watching the movie. I always want to control my seeding, especially since some torrents are monitored. Ive already gotten notified once from my ISP so i'm a bit more cautious now.

Why not just use XBMC, which has been around forever. Just add the addons and repos that you like and watch whatever you want.

I agree (I personally use NAS and home servers). I think the "butter" of Popcorn Time relates to those who aren't technical savvy and or does not have the time to learn how to torrent. Older generations, for example, may not understand the jargon associated with torrenting and may find the process to be too tedious. Opening a program and clicking one button, on the other hand, is quite a bit easier for those who aren't on computers too often.

LOL great Gif, but i see XBMC as superior in fact I wouldn't be surprised if you can add Popcorn Time as a add-on to it. Yet, with the fact I can watch movies, tv shows, sports events, etc on XBMC....
