Morey is a good GM, but he made a few bad decisions this summer. Most of all, i think he outsmarted himself by using team option on Parsons to avoid him becoming an un-restricted FA in 2015. Once the Mavs made that offer, they were on the clock to match and with free agency being on hold until Lebron and Melo decided what they wanted to do, the Rockets basically ended up as spectators.

The Lin deal was awfull as well and honestly, so was the Asik deal. If either one of those guys failed a physical they wouldn't have been able to do the Bosh deal.

Hindsight is always 20-20 and i do think Morey had to take a risk w/ regards to getting Bosh, but IMO they should have kept things a bit more simple from the get-go. I would have flipped Asik for Millsap and kept Parsons on his current salary. Had they done that, they'd have a much improved and balanced team next season and they'd have plenty of opportunity to make additional moves and add depth.

Morey handled the Lin jersey situation wrong as well.

That's an interesting take on the situation, but who knows if Millsap was made available. Asik only has one year left on his contract, so I think the Pelicans pick is a good enough exchange.

Millsap also only has one year left on his contract and Horford have long been playing a bit out of position at the 5. But regardless, it wouldn't necessarily have to be Millsap.

My point is that they had a pretty nice duo in Dwight and Harden and a couple of interesting role-players in Parsons, Patrick Beverly and Terrence Jones as well as a handfull of assets. With the development of Parsons, Beverly and Harden they were a lock to make the playoffs and basically just needed to add a starting caliber PF as well as some depth.

Lakers should have gone after him. He could have provided some frontcourt help, reasonable contract as well...

Lakers should also try to pick up Francisco Garcia. Good 3 point shooter, decent defender, great hustle, can play 2 or 3, and probably can get him for vet minimum.

Lakers making a play at Lance Stephenson.

That is why the Nick Young and Jordan Hill signings aren't official yet.

The Lakers plan is if they can land Lance(either by stretching Nash or what not) they will do that.  They will then use the rest of their cap to sign Lance Stephenson to somewhere in the 10-12 range.  After that happens they would sign Jordan Hill via his bird rights which shall put them over the cap and give them the MLE which they will then spend to sign Nick Young to his 4 year contract.

That is at least the plan at the moment I gather.

If that is possible, then this offseason would be a lot less [expletive]ty.

lakers have been delaying a few deals because they are going after Lance right now.  If they sign Lance first, Hill second, and Nick Young third, this works.

The only two signings they have made official are the Jeremy Lin one and the Julius Randle one which didn't effect their space in an attempt at Lance at all.

Good signing for the Mavs off the bench for them.

Mavs bench will have Felton, Lewis, Crowder, Wright and Smith so far.

Nice.

Mavs couldn't have done all they have without Dirk giving the team a discount.  Just sayin'... :)
