I wont lie, it set us back.

We were supposed to be Cap ready THIS year.

I think there's a possibility that deep down inside of Kobe, although a big part of him feels he damn well deserves all that he's getting from the deal, some small part of him at the least (though he would NEVER admit it) feels a little embarrassed or ashamed that not only seeing the dire situation with the team & roster around him & future going forward & lack of flexibility realistically, but also of course himself probably not having expected himself to have the injury be as tough as it has been on him and then compounded with the quick hitter after the six games when he was back.

Just too many negative things I feel around for him not to feel at least a bit awkward or slightly embarrassed about it, but again, like I said, of course he would never admit it and of course he would never feel enough to do something about it. At the end of the day, money speaks loudly and ain't no way he's gonna' do something amazing & selfless for the team and for the fans. Of course he doesn't have to anyway, but he never would regardless.

^ You know what he means. An extra $6 million or so could make a world of difference overall, but it is what it is obviously.

Yes they are, but with a very limited spending power, and that's not enough to form a really good playoff team.

Cap ready for what exactly?  I mean I don't think it's as bad as some think.  Regardless this team probably doesn't field a team that can contend if Kobe took less.  I think 2015 space has a bigger effect on free agency.  Would have been nice to use the extra cap room to bring in bad deals for picks if possible.  Use 2014 space as rental room.

There is only one free agent that could turn this team around in 2014. LBJ isn't coming here, neither is Melo likely (good thing). We will see a Lakers team that is similar to this one next year. Maybe without Pau. This team has fallen so far so fast, it's hard to believe. The roster they have put together has no chance of winning long term and I can't imagine putting together an entire new roster next year of castoffs is gonna turn out any different. This might take years.

Can't win with an audition type team.
