100% happy with this. Gotta think long term. If there were free agents to sign this summer we'd do it, but there simply aren't.

Why is that?

Mitch Kupchak said it would be "possible" the Lakers open up extension talks with Pau Gasol before July 1 but said it'd be "unlikely"

So they are actually planning on resining him. Wow. Front office starting to look really bad. If we go into next season with pau and MDA then we are looking at mediocrity for a long time.

How did you read that and see we're resigning Pau? He clearly says it's unlikely.

Yes, and he understands it a lot better than anyone else on this forum and in the NBA did prior.

Hence why every other GM cried when he and Jim got us CP3.  They already had the CBA figured out by the day it became official.

Why do you think every other GM cried and moaned about it?  Cause Mitch had schooled them again before they could blink and they couldn't take it.

I can bet everything I have that the front office has much more of an understanding than you.

I actually would not mind bringing Pau Gasol back for a good price. He can still play even though he would get better offers elsewhere IMO. Imagine Beldsoe, Kobe, Young?!, Love, Gasol. Exum off the bench. not bad...

I respect that our franchise still isn't in the business of penny pinching, but I still felt they should have got under the tax line somehow.

Oh well, onto the offseason!

I think Mitch and them weigh how much the tax is depending on how far they are over the tax.

As Mitch has said before if you're a certain amount over it, the consequence really isn't that big a deal, but if you're over it to another extent it can be really damaging.

So I'm guessing their goal was to get it to a point where they can "lol" about the tax and otherwise won't search to go completely under it unless they are getting assets or picks in return.

i cant

This is a loss season

Stop looking for victories

This isn't Magic

Again, this is the KD and LeBron era...We dont have those guys just like we didn'tt have Jordan.

WKobe's era is coming to an end

If u cant wait for a few years, then you will just always complain about the state of affairs

Just be a Heat fan until the Lakers are n top again. Its easy.

Lakers could have brought pau back even if they traded him

To make no moves to get under the luxay tax, and thus, the repeater tax, is criminal!!

Pretty much everyone is walking this summer. Why not trade them now for future assests? Draft picks that could help down the line???

Philly has 9 2nd round picks this year...

Maybe... Maybe lakers trade back from their pick this draft with the 76ers for the pelicans pick... And a bunch of 2nd rounders

If lakers are sold on exum, maybe trading from 4 to 8 and getting some 2nd round picks is a good move

I think the 76ers would trade most of their picks to move up and have two top 5 picks

They don't need to draft 9 players!

I'd rather have gotten something for Pau rather than seem desperate and just dump him for salary purposes.

Wait for the big Fish. People have short term memories but this is how Jerry did it. You don't settle on the people who wont help you win (Melo). You go for the big guys like Durant or Westbrook. It takes patience but we will be back to where we belong soon.

No one wanted our trash. Sixers DO need 9 2nd rounders.

I guess they don't care about the tax because they know they aren't going to be spending any money any time soon. Confirms why they gave Kobe a big contract since that's all they'll be spending and he can be a mascot for a couple more years.

And it really looks unlikely now that they'll let MDA go at the end of the season...
