Mitch on this off-season

"I don’t think we’ll we use our cap money to patch together a team for next year...May take more than 1 yr to build, I don’t know."

Whether it's a max player, or a player that would get more playing or his home town(team). We'll be in the hunt.

Mitch: "We have a plan, it could need 6 months, 12 months, or 18 months." Said the organization is committed to following Jerry Buss.

Said that the Lakers aren't motivated by getting under the luxury tax.  And that you can maybe want to get under it for strategic reasons but they aren't worried about it.   He said if you could angle it he wouldn't mind doing it. But if the opportunities to go below the tax come with no basketball components is unacceptable and that this organization isn't about "salary dumps" and that moves would be made for picks or for players, not for the sake of dumping salary.

Mitch making a lot of sense really.

If they aren't worried at all about the tax and already knows how they're gonna manipulate the penalty then that means they basically make moves freely without the repeater tax of worry.  So it means they aren't trading people for nothing, they are trading them for assets and because people didn't want to give up picks or players for them they said no thanks.

The plan used to be "when Kobe's contract is off the books...:

Now the plan is "when Kobe's contract is off the books..."

Mitch says this years pick will be a good pick and it will be something he's concentrating on more than ever.

Mitch: "I'll be concentrating more on a certain level of players in college basketball."

Meaning the top players.

Mitch wants to make sure our cap money is used responsibly. Don't want to be a middle of the pack team. Doesn't want to sign just any free agent.

Mitch "We don't want to make commitments to players for long periods of time that will put you in the middle of the pack." Says if they are signing any player for a long period of time it will be one that can help and keep this team playing at a high level.

I feel like that's regarding Melo.

We better not tank next year... Got no draft pick... We cant be in "rebuild mode" next year the suns have our pick. Does anyone know if that pick is protected???

Mitch Kupchak said it would be "possible" the Lakers open up extension talks with Pau Gasol before July 1 but said it'd be "unlikely"

So they are actually planning on resining him. Wow. Front office starting to look really bad. If we go into next season with pau and MDA then we are looking at mediocrity for a long time.

top 5. So we would need to super tank like this year. Though i doubt we will have kobe out all season so that would be pretty hard thing to do.

Mitch said nothing of the sort in terms of re-signing Gasol.

He said that it's "possible" they could talk extension, but it was unlikely as they have been careful with their cap to GET this flexibility.

They asked him if he was planning on bringing Pau back and Mitch said it was an "option".  Didn't say where the option ranked, but that it was an 'option' because obviously it is.

Nowhere did Mitch say he was intending on bringing Pau back. I don't know how you took what he said that way.
