This. Regardless of what was said don't ever react to a fan. At the end of the day your on the big stage because of the fans, even the ones that are a-holes. Shut em up with your play not by getting in an argument with them.

Exactly. He has to be professional in these situations especially if he is going to be in the draft. NBA teams wont like seeing something like this happen.

Yeah I was thinking he must have called him the n word. That's the only way this could be justified.

Wonder how many games he gets suspended for

Reports are that he called him the N word.

This idiot fan has been notorious for doing stupid stuff at Texas Tech games. I don't really blame Smart for getting mad.

Wow, that same guy is known for doing it? I'm glad they got him and his family on camera now if that's the case. It's too bad Smart couldn't restrain himself, but I get it.

Guys name is Jeff Orr supposedly, and pretty well know at Texas Tech for being a "passionate fan".

This would be him taunting Bryan Davis of A&M at around :30 sec mark.

A Texas Tech interview:

As stated in another thread, you can't resort to physical altercation over a verbal disagreement. Let's see what formal negative sanctions are brought against Smart.

He's not known for racial slurs, but he is known for antagonizing behavior. Who knows if he's actually crossed the line until now

Awesome. If he wasn't openly racist before, he won't be able to hide now.

I doubt they suspend him if the fan said that. It would be bad press to suspend a player on those grounds. Either way that fan deserved it. Idk how in these times people feel comfortable with saying that [expletive]. I'm usually the guy to say he should have kept his cool but screw that. Should have done more than shove him.

Is there any way they can ban him from Texas Tech games from now on? How hilarious would that be?

"Hey Jeff, you're not going to the Tech game tonight like always?"

"No I'm not actually. I've been banned from attending any more games because I was caught on cameras multiple times harassing 18-22 year olds over a game of basketball."

I think everyone seeing his face and knowing what he said will be more of a punishment than that shove Marcus Smart gave. This "fan" will be dealing with

 formal  informal negative sanctions

for some time to come.

I always do find it strange how racists (or just benign) can still be basketball fans considering the majority that play it.

I don't think anyone here would be surprised that even most NBA games you'll hear racial slurs being thrown around from time to time.
