The extra point is almost automatic,” Goodell said, via NFL.com. “I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd. So it’s a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play.

“There’s one proposal in particular that I’ve heard about. It’s automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball, so if you fail, you go back to six.”

Thoughts?

Sounds like a nice plan actually.

Roger Goodell is the worst commissioner in professional sports.

Don't really see a need to change it. NFL games aren't very long and FG attempts are as dangerous as any other play on the field.

I dont think the extra point is anything really needed but I think there have been enough changes to the rules. The game is fine as is.

I guess it is pretty pointless to have when it's pretty much automatic. Still, I don't really see any reason to seriously consider removing it.

I don't see a reason why you'd need to mess with it honestly, besides there have been moments where teams have blocked/gotten a finger on the ball and caused a miss, so no I don't believe it should be taken out of the game. Kickers need to earn that paycheck as well lol
