Gary Payton on why he hates today's NBA:

"Basically everything. It's no defense, it's just run and gun. To me, there's only three point guards in the NBA that impress me; I got Chris Paul, Rondo, and another kid that I like a lot and I forgot his name right now. Oh, and Tony Parker. That's only three NBA players in there.

There's too much touch fouls. Every time you touch and they stay on the free throw line. That's no way to watch basketball. When we were playing, it was rough and tough. Even superstars like me fouled out a lot. That's because they let people play, and if you do something then you call it. But nowadays it's not like that and this is the era.

This is what kids want to see. You see these Playstations, they scoring 50 and 60 with one player, that's what they want to see on TV and I don't go with that. My era, give me one-on-one with somebody and stop him and right now you can't do that with a player because if you touch him he's going to the foul line and you're fouling out. Let him be rough. If he got an opportunity to go at you in the offensive end, let me go at him on the defensive end and rough him up. So that's the way I like basketball and I don't think it's like that.

Pretty much he nailed it.

I 100% agree with him.

Agreed. Its pretty rare to find a game that interests me all game nowadays. With Harden and Durant getting 20 freethrows whenever they want, it gets boring as hell.

It's the fact they get free throws off of offensive fouls that annoys me really.

Even if you watch Kobe's 81 point game, you'll see he was mostly fouled with real contact. Now, a little nudge for certain celebrities, and they're given free throws.

Durant and Harden have taken the occasional "get to the line" moves and made it the main part of their game.

I know Glove loves KB with his heart, so i'm pretty surprised he didn't mention his name. lol

Anyway, i agree with him 100%. NBA players are getting bigger, faster and more athletic today, yet the game is called as if 10 year old kids were making physical contact on the court.

Think highly of yourself there, Gary?

He could have said players, or even stars and i woulda been cool, but man....

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health, 2. High Draft Pick (Randle!) 3. Miracle Trade (Not yet), 4. Quality Free Agent (Boozer, kind of), 5. Brilliant Coaching Hire (Byron!...but the jury is out)

I agree with him on the touch fouls

The pace is still pretty similar to his days though

Exactly

Thats why I really don't like MDA as well. All he coaches is offense and shooting defense, no D.

Harden's game is just disrespectful to basketball. He is the biggest [expletive] around.

And LeBron acts like a little girl when someone fouls him hard.

Bunch of princess waterworks in the game today.

Incorrect, I ref 10 year olds. They take much more contact before they get a whistle lol

Thank, man. Great interview.
