Report: Andrew Bynum wants more than the minimum, market waning

ESPN reports that the market for Andrew Bynum has been waning since the former Cav was traded to Chicago and the waived. In part, the problems include the fact that Bynum wants more than the minimum for his services.

Sources told ESPN.com on Sunday that the
Los Angeles Clippers, long presumed to be one of Bynum's primary suitors, are leaning against the prospect of signing the enigmatic former Los Angeles Laker.

ESPN.com reported Thursday that the
Brooklyn Nets (after losing Brook Lopez) and Atlanta Hawks (after losing Al Horford) were likewise planning to pass on the idea despite their clear need at center, with sources subsequently adding that the Oklahoma City Thunder are not preparing a bid on Bynum in the wake of the recent trade that shed the contract of Ryan Gomes to take the Thunder nearly $2.3 million away from the luxury-tax threshold.

Teams with a known interest, sources said, include Dallas and New York, but both of those suitors, like the Clippers, are restricted to offering a minimum salary. Bynum, meanwhile, is said to be looking for an offer above the league minimum to recoup more of the $6 million he lost when Chicago waived Bynum immediately Tuesday after acquiring him in a trade for
Luol Deng.

The Pacers, one of the “original eight,” are still in the hunt, but not necessarily because they’re enthralled with Bynum’s game and/or winning attitude. In fact:

Sources say the Pacers, to this point, have not made an official offer and are interested in Bynum more as a measure to keep him away from Miami than they actually want to test the limits of their treasured team chemistry by adding such a wild card halfway through this championship-or-bust season.

Its shocking how little this guy is willing to work for money. He had a 12 mill contract that apparently was not enough for him to pay attention to his coach.

I can see why teams would want to keep him away from Miami, maybe OKC. Other than that no other team needs him that is a legitimate contender but also wouldn't disregard locker room chemistry.

Definitely. With Bynum, it's more of a "I'm good at it so might as well collect the $$$", much more than a passion.

I only see someplace like BKN where he fits.  Pacers don't need him and neither does Miami.  OKC's doesn't want some idiot disrupting their culture either.  BKN is in need of a real C at the moment and he could contribute there.  Teams aren't risking or banking anything on Bynum at this point IMO.  If he's signed it's probably going to be a non guaranteed vet mini.

Probably figures its better to rest his knees for next season than to potentially get injured playing for cheap

He's getting to the point where there wont be a next season unless he proves himself physically capable and mentally engaged.

If all he cared about was money, he would have been at his best behavior just before the trade deadline of Jan 7th. He would have made the most money by staying with the Cavs.  Evidently he wanted to be released to sign with a contender, that makes him more about wanting to win, rather than money.
