Subject matter and Hollywood PR agenda, had Macklemore made a more generic 'rap' song. Even if it became a big time hit, wouldn't have been anything note worthy.

His entire album is impressive imo.  Not better than Kendrick's.   But don't sleep on Macklemore.  His raps have had more substance than any rapper not Young Simba, Kendrick, old Lupe, in a while.

My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album... I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that's taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it's proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You're the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That's what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys

You realize this is a gimmick to save face in the hip hop community? Mack makes a song about gay rights but has several posts on twitter defacing gay people. He doesn't give a [expletive] about it. Quite the hypocrite.

To be fair, all he said was that he was not gay. Nothing wrong with that. And about the "no homo", everyone would say that back in the day.

IMO he rode the gay right topic as a gimmick for appeal. Doesn't mean [expletive] anymore though. Kendrick gonna be eating soon on the sophomore album. Can't wait

I honestly think you're saying that cause you're a fan of Kendrick.   You don't have to attack Macklemore to boost what Kendrick already does.   There's no issue with liking them both.

If Macklemore whom is friends with Kendrick really sent him that message and he means it, which he likely does. We don't need to turn it into "Macklemore did it to save face in the hip hop community!!"

How the heck would Macklemore lose face?   This isn't lil wayne, he actually is lyrically skilled and a very solid rapper.  He could have not said a word and nothing would have changed in the hip hop community for him.   So imo there was really no reason for him to put out there that he thought Kendrick was robbed.  He could have just remained quiet and no one would have been going "AND WHY DIDN'T MACKLEMORE SAY ANYTHING!! HE KNOWS KENDRICK WAS BETTER! UGH I HATE THAT IDIOT!! I'M NOT A FAN ANYMORE".

They're both tight, in real life and on the mic, so I hope it stays that way.

I honestly thought Mack's song about gay rights was insincere the moment I heard it. I hate that song in so many ways.

^I'm curious, what makes you think that Macklemore was insincere about gay rights? I'm just curious. He comes from one of the most liberal cities in America where they just elected someone from the socialist party to serve on the city council. Washington state is still one of the very few states where gay marriage is legal. The only reason he blew up was because Seattle carried him into the mainstream...

I was open to the possibility that peoples' views change over time.

If we are open to such a possibility, I'm curious about any other reasons as to why one thinks Macklemore was insincere in his song about gay rights.
