In 2016 if we somehow land Durant and our draft picks/young guys are looking good... I think it's possible Kobe hangs on for another year.  Short from that it does seem like time to hang it up.

If that were to happen he'd stay. But Mitch has to build as if he isn't. Which is the smart thing to do.

I think the Buss family was the only one that wanted him in the first place. Pretty sure Mitch wasn't happy with that contract they gave Kobe.

Okay, but right now it seems like Mitch doesn't want him anymore.

Mitch is saying there is no farewall tour for Kobe next year but it's supposed to be his final year? Kobe has also said otherwise.

You're reading far too much into it if you think that.

Eh same outcome. Kobe's deal seems to have served as a placeholder to appease fans since everyone wanted signings back then. Likewise Mitch might be saying this for curious FA's worried about Kobe's shadow.

Why would Mitch not want Kobe beyond this season? That's nonsense. As far as Mitch is concerned, it only comes down to his contract because as a GM that is the only thing he can control. If Kobe chooses to play beyond 2016, he will know his role exactly. Whether it's Byron that is the coach, or somebody else they will find a way to integrate Kobe into the system. People are acting like Kobe is an headcase, and will [expletive] about changes in the team. Seriously.

It's quite funny how much Kobe always gets blamed for the drama surrounding the Lakers, whether it be losing or rifts while winning when The Buss Family have had their own fair share of drama behind the scenes, whether it's the Dr. Buss-Phil-West dynamic, Buss-Jim-Phil, Jim-Phil-Jeanie, and now Mitch-Jim-Jeanie.

Fact is there's always something going on with the Lakers whether it's on the court or the stuff we don't see off it. FO chemistry is just as important as on court chemistry and in every case you can't have on court chemistry if your FO is dysfunctional.

Look kids...I doubt Kobe has a storybook ending and its clear a lot of fans are miffed at the contract and injuries.

But any fan who has watched his career and especially those that are laker fans really need to put things in perspective.

Couple down years that has made FO decisions a bit harder on the back of literally one of the all time great SPORTS careers....that drew most Laker fans to the team over the last 2 decades.

Honestly, if you see him, thank him for all the good memories in your life.

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health (Nope, another season ending injury), 2. High Draft Pick (Randle...season ending injury game #1.*sigh*) 3. Miracle Trade (Not yet, but Black looks nice), 4. Quality Free Agent (Boozer, kind of, Davis, nice upside!), 5. Brilliant Coaching Hire (Byron coaching to tank and injure)

Season summary...awful and unwatchable.

Personally, I'm the type of fan that is very loyal to players that have helped the Lakers win championships.  Ron Artest could commit a double murder and I'm still not gonna have a bad thing to say about him lol.  In all seriousness though if Kobe wants to retire, re-sign at a reduced salary, or play for another team that's all good with me.  He's earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants in my book.
