The reason we've seen Kobe numerous times in various talk shows / interviews recently is because he's promoting the upcoming Muse documentary.

And injured and not playing

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health (Nope, another season ending injury), 2. High Draft Pick (Randle...season ending injury game #1.*sigh*) 3. Miracle Trade (Not yet, but Black looks nice), 4. Quality Free Agent (Boozer, kind of, Davis, nice upside!), 5. Brilliant Coaching Hire (Byron coaching to tank and injure)

Obviously, the praying thing didnt work.

Doesn't look like promoting to me. Seems just like numerous interviews bunched together. You don't see him say to check it out, even if it means leaving out Showtime's name.

With movies, celebrities rarely openly promote the movies themselves by randomly telling the audience to check it out. Producers/agents/companies schedule interviews, and the chief actors/actresses visit various platforms for those select interviews, usually in a short time span. It's most often the host that'll act as the main promoting catalyst, for example, like Jimmy Kimmel asking Liam Neeson about Taken 3 and his role in it.

Even though it's just a documentary, it's still the same basic concept.
