Lakers interested in bringing in Deng

With less than two months to go before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 20, the Los Angeles Lakers are starting to get mentioned in a new of potential deals that could go down. Although the team seems to be maintaining their stance on not trading Pau Gasol, the rumors continue to swirl about potential deals and free agents targets for the upcoming off-season.

Reportedly, the Lakers are already starting to show interest in bringing in Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls in free agency over the summer according to Bulls Insider Aggrey Sam of CSNChicago.com:

His upcoming status has resulted in the likes of the Cavaliers, Mavericks, Lakers, Raptors, Spurs, Grizzlies and Nets, among others, already expressing interest in Deng, according to league sources. It doesn’t hurt that Deng, currently sidelined with a left Achilles’ injury that’s caused him to miss seven games this month, is having another stellar campaign, one of three NBA players to average 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game (Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant and Minnesota’s Kevin Love are the others) and picking up the Bulls’ scoring burden in the wake of Derrick Rose’s season-ending knee injury.

Dont see any benefit in trading for Deng, not like we have anything that the Bulls will take.

Gonna be a bidding war for him. I would love to have him on the Lakers, but not for how much he'll probably end up making. Unless he takes less to come here, I doubt we end up with him. Damn these new cap regulations lol

He's a great player and even though I'd love to sign him this summer I feel like a team is going to over pay him.

We shall see I suppose.

Unless he plays for 6 mill, I wouldn't do it. Hurt or injured too much for my blood.

I can see the timberwolves trying to get him if they have the money, I think he'd fit in nice on that team.

With his defensive abilities he's easily worth 8 million per year, which wouldn't hurt our chances at getting Kevin Love in 2015.

I see him getting 18+ for another team. I wish we could get him for 13-15 but someone will likely over pay him which we right now are not able to do.

lol he's making 14+ mill a year right now and he's playing his best ball. He's easily getting over what he's getting now. Getting him for 14 mill would be a steal.

I think he'd be willing to take a four-year deal at 10M / yr.

Yep, we get his bird rights. But we wont be able to sign someone at the max and keep...anyone. But theoretically, if we waived everyone and Nash would retire due to medical reasons, we could have about 20 million in capspace. But that's not going to happen, i think.

If we're working on a two year window (this year included) i think we try to trade for him.

I don't think Farmar, Kobe Deng and losing Wes, Meeks, Xavier and Nick Young is an upgrade.

I rather try and keep 3 of the last 4 and work on our soft interior

you could likely still keep Xavier as a prospect, increase Wes to a 3 mill kind of deal, pay Nick Young for more years if he opts out.  Let Meeks walk, re-sign Farmar, re-sign Hill with your Bird Rights.

That's what I see happening in terms of re-signing.

Just watch. There are teams out there that would pay that will pay that. He's an all star putting up great stats and playing great D. There are way worse players getting paid more.

I cant think of any all stars putting up deng's numbers that would be getting new contracts under 10 mill a year. The guy is making 14+ mill right now. He isnt going to take a big salary cut for anyone. He is going into his prime years and this contract will be his biggest.
