I want him back if he takes a pay cut the way he's playing lately.

This makes it very tight on the Lakers. Lakers basically cannot re-sign Pau Gasol even cheap, cap will be too tight.

Lol. You act like we can't willingly pay luxury tax.

BINGO.

Lakers are not going to ever be a under the cap team.  They will pay the luxury tax.  People need to RELAX

Hoping Kobe is still the same player, atleast close to it.

But only 1

We weren't getting LeBron and Melo and there are no more max players out there. Wait until 2016.

Kobe could potentially take up between 33 and 40 percent of the Lakers cap space.

Kobe's contract will be $23.5 million and $25 million, source tells ESPNLA.

You can't force your way into the luxury tax.  Once you are at the cap you can't sign new players except for the MLE and maybe the Biannual exception.  Lakers have been in the luxury due to extending current players under contract.  We have a team full of expiring deals.

Lol. You act like we can't willingly pay luxury tax.

Reading the tea leaves, this Kobe extension could mean rumors about Nash being medically forced to retire, thus cap savings, could be true

https://twitter.com/...016468443922432

If the Lakers were relatively confident Nash's $8 mill and change were off the books next year, paying Kobe $24 mill is easier to swallow

This is speculation and the media is wrong here. I can bet.

Apparently the max amount of paycut Kobe could take now was 40 percent since Lakers was above the salary cap-> 18 mil for 1st year.

They seem to have met at the middle.

This doesn't make any sense at all! Why now? Why not wait until he's played a couple of games. He must have looked pretty good in pratice.

There must be a trade coming or something...

Well...Mitch is gonna have to pull some rabbits out of the hat

In lieu of chasing title (which may not have been possible), Lakers opt for the most glorious and expensive farewell tour in NBA history.

They can't really let him walk, their hands are tied and they really have to resign him at any cost to the franchise, and they did.  With that being said, it is a terrible contract going forward even if he is 100%.  I don't see them winning anything in the next 3 years without a complete overhaul, so it really isn't that big a deal.

I would love to go for Lance Stephenson.....

Pacers are already 15.7 mill over the cap next season which is 39 mill more in taxes.
