Would be great to get rid of nash. His 9 mill contract for next year could cost us a good player.

We can use the stretch provision - i.e. waive him and stretch his salary over 3 years, that would clear the first 6 million.

We can also trade him, though it will be difficult, but probably not impossible. Gilbert Arenas managed to get himself and his 80 million dollar knees traded.

I'm not certain what the rules are regarding retirement, but if he suffers another injury like last season, this is also a possibility.

Arenas was traded for an equally bad contract and worse player in Rashard Lewis as well.

Does he have to agree to that?

No its up to the Lakers discretion. Just like anyone they can waive him whether he wants to be or not. Nash was a S&T which has to be at least a 3 year contract. So the Lakers knew that if need be if the Nash signing didnt work out they could cut him and only pay 3 mill for 3 years on his last year of 9 mill and have a bit more cap space to play with in the 2014 free agency. He still gets his money its just drip fed over 3 years. They can still keep him for that last year, but I wouldnt count on it. Depends who we are able to pick up I suppose.

Arenas was traded because the Magic had Otis Smith. That's why.

All this after Nash's best game as a Laker.

Funny stuff.

He won't be dealt this year, but the stretch provision is looming large next off-season.

Nash could have a stat line of 35/6/17  tonight

And instead of talking about how much healthier Nash is looking there'd be posts here saying "TRADE HIM NOW WHILE HE HAS VALUE!"   -_-

except not.....his stat line wasn't even close to that(and will never be close to that anymore) 13/3/6 on 38% shooting isn't good for 9m a year.

No, I'm just realistic about where Nash is health wise and understand that it's going to take him some time to get his legs under him.

Nash becoming healthy right now is the most important thing and as he moves better every game and gets to his spots easier that's all that matters.  His shots are going to fall when his legs are back, I'm aware of this.  I'm also aware that we can ill afford to run him into the ground this early into the season.   His health and movement get better each game and that is where the focus should be right now.  As I said, wait to see where he's at around Christmas before you start jumping all over him.

Its the same thing I keep hearing. Wait till he gets healthy.....then hes healthy for a month or so. And guess what, he is injured again.

Thus far Nash has been looking and moving better game by game so obviously it's working ;)

Shooting wise yes, has to do with getting his legs back.

But moving off pick and rolls and getting to his spots on the floor fluidly he looked good.    That's what we're looking for, how good his movement is and how he moves up and down the court.

I to once believed Nash could get it together, but no one defeats father time.  The proof is in the pudding.  Every time he states that he is healthier, a string of games later he re-injures himself and we start back at square one.  If you can deal him you do so, if not, keep him and utilize the stretch provision unless he is willing to retire.

Hes 39 years old and has been injury prone as a Laker. It doesn't seem promising.
