Playing and then nothing.
Turned off switch. Turned on. Powered up. Lights green for a sec then blinks red. Am I dead?
Its my original 60gb that was b/c. Had it since the week PS3 came out.

Have you tried holding the power button so it does a hard reset?

Sorry man, sounds toast to me (literally). These PS3s unfortunately suffer from over heating issues. You can correct it by replacing the thermal compound of the CPU and GPU. This requires $15 and 1-2 hours of freetime. You can also try reflowing your PS3, hopefully blowing out a build-up of dust:

You need to power up the unit to make this work, so return it to its normal home or bring the plug over to your cleaning space.

Make sure the power switch on the PS3 is off – The unit needs to be fully powered down, not just in standby.

Turn on the power switch while holding down the Eject button – the system should fire up and you should hear all the system fans come on at once.

Wait for the system to return to “Standby” mode – If you did this correctly the unit will blow out all the fans for about 10 seconds before going into standby mode.

Well, statisically speaking, the PS3 failure rate has never surpassed the Xbox's rate of failure. When you are cramming a lot of powerful hardware into a small space, heating becomes vital. This has always been a challenge for console manufacturers.

Hilarious.

I usually dont get into the vs debate. But I had that PS3 for 7 years. It was my friend. She will be missed. Lost but never forgotten. RIP.

But in the 7 years Ive had her I have replaced 3 computers...lol. So I got my moneys worth over 84 months.

7 years ago I bought it for $499 with 10 free blurays.

The blurays were all new. Value about $20 each. So I got the PS3 for $300. Thats $3.58 per month of 1080P Bluray HD Entertainment.

Its hard to beat that.

Looks like you got the YLOD.

Xbox have more failure than PS3.    I had my PS3 since it came out. I got the fat one. Still works fine.  You an xbox guy?  Sorry to hear that.

yea, read somewhere that 360s failed at a 51% rate...that was awhile ago...hopefully it improved with different generations...

felt that was pretty accurate, if not generous...i was on campus at UCSB between school and work for almost 10 years, and i knew lots of people with those systems...i think all but 2 people i knew had the thing red ring on them...
