Marvel really wants to get into the Joseph Gordon-Levitt business. Months after it was revealed that Gordon-Levitt was on the short list to star in "Guardians of the Galaxy," Variety reports that the studio wants the actor to play the title character in "Ant-Man." According to the trade publication, Paul Rudd is also a major contender for the part.

"Ant-Man" is Marvel's next big blockbuster, following in the footsteps of the aforementioned "Guardians of the Galaxy" (Chris Pratt wound up playing the role initially pegged for Gordon-Levitt). The film, directed by Edgar Wright, is due in theaters on July 31, 2015, almost three months after "Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron" debuts.

Levitt can play almost anything but Rudd is a better fit for the part

Though at the same time levitt would make more sense as to why ant-man hasn't been discussed in the universe as he can play a young up and coming scientist

Also a set photo already has been out up showing the back of ant man in a body suit with censors on it so I think they casted whoever they casted

I'll be honest though. I don't know a damn thing about 'Ant-Man', lol & the name & concept itself from an outside perspective not knowing anything of it just sounds & seems rather goofy, but I'm sure it's obviously pretty sophisticated.

I think Rudd fits in more with RDJ and ruffalo as Henry pym is a scientist an Rudd is kind of what's missing between banner and stark

But JGL is younger and can play the character longer

^ True that, but it definitely helps how well Rudd ages. He certainly does not look as old as he is. Man is Blessed.

I think Rudd is better for ant-man and avengers 3 as he's more of a supporting guy who would add a new dynamic to the current cast

Levitt is more of a lead guy who can be the name they need to lead the next cast for avengers 4 and beyond

But that's assuming levitt would be behind a 10+ year commitment

I'd say go with Rudd for Antman and avengers 3 and then go with levitt for beyond that

Ant-Man? I love JGL so I'm biased. I think Rudd could master this role though... I like your plan Last Stand.

Paul Rudd actually fits the role pretty well.  With Edgar Wright directing, I can see Rudd pulling this off.

Wouldn't Paul Rudd have to get jacked up? Don't think I've ever seen him get like that in his career for anything nor in personal life.

Ant-Man / Hank Pym isn't a character based on muscle, he's a scientist with an acerbic wit.

^ Ahh. Well I was judging that vision based off the poster-like image I pulled down from Marvel via google images & shared in the first post.

All comic characters are drawn from that physically hulking model.  Just because it looks that way in a book, doesn't mean it has to be exactly the same on the screen.  Character models, stories and more are adjusted from print to screen.

I agree that Paul Rudd fits it well. The Question for me is how long do they want this particular version of pym to last.

If its for one Antman movie and avengers 3 then Rudd is absolutely perfect and I personally couldn't think of a better choice

If they want this pym to last past avengers 3 then I'm just not sure Rudd makes sense

But in that scenario noone really does because not many actors make 10+ year commitments of that magnitude for multiple reasons

Having said how perfect Rudd is I do believe levitt can pretty much do anything so he'd be a great choice

But what's most important probably for marvel is Rudd is much cheaper
