I dont think Rondo recruits any better than Kobe would

you can rebuild with cap space, not a an injured, not THAT young, arrogant, bad FT in the clutch shooting lead guard.

As good of a d3fender as Rondo can be, I don't think PG defense is as impactful as a Lebron/PaulGeorge win defender

or a Ibaka/Hibbert rim protector

or a Marc gasol who is  a good post defender and solid defensive anchor

It would be sooo stupid to trade Pau for Rondo rightnow, considering the fact that our backcourt would be in question with Kobe and Rondo

Pau Gasol is GONE

Rondo can match up defensively with any PG in the league.  Considering that most of the monster players on the rise in the NBA are athletic or aggressive scoring PG's he'd be a nice asset to have going into a rebuild.  Cap space means 0 when you don't have players to get.  You can easily recruit another big and wing with an unselfish offensive player like Rondo vs an aging big like Pau or even Kobe on the bubble.  Hell a PG like Rondo would be perfect for Melo.
