The Lakers FRANCHISE is the gold standard. The Lakers BRAND is the gold standard. Michael D'Antoni is not a gold standard head coach.

The Lakers future is fluid. The decisions the front office has made here in the present and the ones they will make in the future will determine if we remain the gold standard going forward.

There's no doubting the franchise will recover from bad decisions but that doesn't mean you can't be "mystified" at those decisions.

Why are you [expletive]ing? Didn't you throw out the "real games" quip? These games don't mean [expletive] and we've seen what MDA does when the games DO MEAN [expletive].

I wasn't aware that MDA was ever IN fashion.

Ironic. I'm basically telling you to stop [expletive]ing and you take it as me [expletive]ing.

Yeah. You've said that countless times before. Do you have to remind us every chance you get because you need something to do between football games?

What's the title of the thread?

Lakers' Front Office Remains The Gold Standard

When I first commented on this thread, I wasn't even talking about the subject...I was basically saying "[expletive] San Antonio".

Now, by the time I posted on something somewhat relevant to this discussion, it was a dig at MDA. You have a problem with me taking digs at MDA? Tough [expletive]...use your ignore function (trust me, I will be using mine after this post).

My post about hiring a competent head coach is relevant to the discussion because in order to maintain that "gold standard" that we are accustomed to...it starts with a head coach...a COMPETENT HEAD COACH. I don't care what you say, we don't have a competent head coach right now.

There might be better coaches. but there arent lots of them i know that.

PJ was a nobody when he won in 91,92,93.

Spoelstra was a nobody.

Riley with the lakers in 80's.

Whats Rick Carlisle done since they won?

Do u want vogel from pacers? (Who the hell was he)

Maybe MDA doesn't last, maybe he does. But if he has this team playing competitively Im good with giving him a shot. If he fails this season spectacularly (30 ish wins) the lakers will probably replace him. Good on the Lakers to give this guy a bit of room to find his groove. Oh, Magic bombed and so did Rudy T as a laker coach and they were very popular fan picks. Showing we know less than we think we know.

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health, 2. High Draft Pick!, 3. Miracle Trade (Not yet), 4. Quality Free Agent (Boozer, kind of), 5. Brilliant Coaching Hire (Byron!)

Windu doesn't realize that he uses competent in that fashion.

We would not be competent.

D'Antoni hasn't win a title so he lacks greatness but doesn't lack competency.

If u didnt use hyperbole no one would Question your views.

Who is "we"? I said COMPETENT HEAD COACH

having suitable or sufficient skill, knowledge, experience, etc., for some purpose;

Capable

Qualified

Sufficient

Take your pick.

What's the purpose? To win championships.

This is what you hire MDA for:

Ordinary

Regular

Common

He is a coach if you want to see a little fun on the court but no defense. Although, games with no defense are boring to me personally.

He is a coach for making a little noise in the playoffs but ultimately failing each and every time.

You make an assertion  without much analysis or support.  You don't define  "front office".  Do you mean:

Mitch

Jimmie

Jeannie

MDA

Assuming you mean primarily Mitch, please provide a synopsis of each trade, signing and draft move in the last few years. Please support your premise with facts and analysis, not just a bald assertion.

Does the "best" front office mean the most championships?  Over what period?

More specifically, how was the Sessions trade a "good" move by the FO?  We gave up a first round pick for a marginal starter who left after a few months, to be a backup on a bad team.  I hardly call that a smart move by the FO.  If that is the gold standard you refer to, God help us.

CBA was made so the Lakers would age disgracefully after a failed trade.
Signed Kapono to stretch floor and he was just DONE, got rid of that bad contract + Luke and Fish who were hurting the team for a guy who looked as if he could help the team in that moment.

He was a bigger coward than Dwight.

Look at the guys who were gone, not a draft pick who became a nobody.

So we were allegedly stuck by all accounts and Bam!
Dwight and Nash and Jamison with allegedly no assets.

Now Nick Young and Kaman who will be productive. And a bunch of young quick guys that might be productive around 3 legends.

GOLD STANDARD.

Look, I doubt anyone would disagree that this franchise is among the few "gold standards" in all of professional sports. However, that does not mean we are perfect and that we are immune to making mistakes.

Mitch has had a GREAT run. Perfect? No. But no one in the league has been better during his tenure.

If the team can win 2-3 more championships in the next 10 years (with competition getting fiercer) i'd say that's about all we can expect. And the FO and coaching staff will have to really be on their game for even that to happen. Its a tough league. Smart people. Competitive owners with money...and the majority of players increasingly placing less importance on getting better at what they are getting paid for.

Because everyone is imperfect and not immune to mistakes, it goes without saying.

So then by that logic every coach currently in the NBA except Spoelstra and Popovich isn't competent?

No, the logic I'm using is that MDA has had his chances over and over and over and over and over and over and over...
