Mike D'Antoni talks to Stephen A. Smith about the Lakers' struggles last season, the loss of Dwight Howard and his expectations for Kobe Bryant.

Bill Reiter sits down with Mike D'Antoni to discuss recent comments by Jeanie Buss and the controversy it created in the Lakers' camp.

I was all excited about this season, expecting a 5-6 seed if healthy until I see this idiot on my screen again

I wouldn't mind seeing him on ESPN every night; as long as he was a full time analyst.  Maybe the Lakers can arrange that for me?

Stop it.

Phil is almost 70.  If D'antoni is fired Phil isn't gonna be a part of a rebuild, and he shouldn't be, it would be a waste of his time and efforts and a waste of money as by the time we put together a championship roster he'd probably be burnt out again.

So realize that you had best start thinking about some other coach when you want D'antoni fired and think about the time spent in terms of the system and that they'd have to learn another one.

Best to let go of the ego and ride this D'antoni thing out cause I don't feel like putting the Lakers through another RUSH TO LEARN A NEW SYSTEM period like last year when we fired Mike Brown too soon and suffered as well.

I for all intents and purposes hope he finds the perfect system for us to be effective in.

I'm not gonna root for him to fail and be fired cause I'm STILL burning about Phil...

Let it go.

I am merely poking fun at him. Phil isn't coming back, I get it.  If MDA is going to be successful, this roster will do it for him. I just don't have faith in MDA, but there aren't a whole lot of better options I guess.  Maybe Frank Hamblen could come back.  Remember when the Lakers lost something like 17 of 18 and when he was being interviewed he said, "shoot I thought it was more."

MDA stutters so much, it's hard to listen to him talk. I get annoyed so fast.

99.9% of people wishing D'antoni gone have it in their minds that Phil would come back if he was.

I'm willing to bet no one's thinking about Lionel Hollins or George Karl coaching the Lakers when they envision D'antoni being fired ;)

Jeanie's beef wasn't with Mike, it was with her brother's decision to cast aside Phil for the job. Nothing in that quote could be construed as a jab at D'Antoni.

What a waste of an interview and a terrible attempt at trying to create more drama.

MDA deserves a full season. If he can get this team to the 2nd round i think almost everyone would take that.  And even "brilliant at the time" coaching hires sometimes chit the bed. Rudy T comes to mind and Jim Buss certainly can't be blamed for that.

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health, 2. High Draft Pick!, 3. Miracle Trade (Not yet), 4. Quality Free Agent (Nope), 5. Brilliant Coaching Hire (Still waiting, wow)

I think it's contingent on getting to the 2nd round as well imo.

Making the playoffs healthy and getting to the second round would be the "least" to make people go "hmm..maybe he can make this work"

Cause if we have a 60 win season but still lose in the first round his head will be called for even MORE aggressively.

Adjusted maybe.

Some team(s) surprises every year. GS last year. Don't recall many if any predicting they'd even make playoffs with an unproven Mark Jackson taking over.

Also pretty much NO ONE had Memphis and the Pacers in the final four last season. Maybe this season we might be a surprise. And if not. You have 3 choices. Root for the team, don't root for the team, root for a different team.

Lets face facts, Great coaches are even harder to come by or cultivate than even great players are.
