Shaquille O'Neal — "Dr. O'Neal," if you ask him — is hoping to help cure the Sacramento Kings.

As the Kings continue their image makeover that was sparked by the late May sale of the team to Vivek Ranadive, they have made a big and bold move by adding O'Neal as a minority owner. The TNT analyst once gleaned pleasure in deriding the Kings, whom he owned in a very different way when his Lakers thrice knocked their rival out of the playoffs en route to titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Now his joy will come from seeing one of the league's worst-performing franchises turn things around.

Shaq continues to get on teams that Lakers fans hate and consider rivals. Heat, Cavs, Celtics and now Kings. At least he isn't working for the Maloofs.

Its a business decision. Not a personal vendetta against the Lakers. Kings franchise has been in turmoil so he probably bought his stake cheap. Shaq always said he wanted to buy into the Orlando Magic franchise. But hes never had the chance. When a opportunity presents itself you gotta take it. regardless of who it is.

He should apologize just to get off on a good note. That apology's been a long time coming.

Very smart of the ownership group in Sacramento to invite him in.

They've seen what a PR dream Magic has been with the Dodgers and what's its done for enthusiasm for the franchise.  Though Shaq wasn't liked much in Sacramento, he will have a very positive impact as the front man / spokesman for the Kings owners.  The Dodgers ownership model will have a far reaching effect on all sports.

Smart move by all parties.

P.S. - Shaq should apologize when the Kings apologize for defacing his 10,000 rebound ball and burning his jersey in effigy before a game.

Kupchak on Shaq as a partial owner of the Kings: "I'm glad I'm not DeMarcus Cousins, I'll tell you that."

@Shaq Good deal! You did call them the Sac Queens in 01, but all is forgiven. btw, saw Sac ran cows thru Main St-designating “Cow Town”.

Please insist that my moniker for Sac back in ‘01 was a premonition on things to come. Good luck with your kissin' cousin-fun da mentals.

Anybody know if this will impact any or all of Shaq's appearances on TNT's "Inside The NBA" with EJ, Kenny, & Charles?

I guess Shaq's fun & games influence is already being felt in Sac-town:
