This signing has to do with the concern that Ryan Kelly will not be ready for camp.  His foot is not progressing very well.

Beasley is still in play.

yeah his injury means they wonder if he'll be ready for camp.

Read that today too.    Hope he's able to bounce back.  But Williams can be asked to do the same things, so he's not a bad substitute whether makes the team or not.  Good perspective West Coast, I did not think of that.

Let's see...say we sign both Williams and Beasley, and we sign Kelly but D-league him

our roster stands at this

Steve Nash
Kobe Bryant
Wesley Johnson
Jordan Hill
Pau Gasol

bench

Steve Blake/Jordan Farmar

Nick Young /Jodie Meeks
Michael Beasley / Elias Harris
Shawne Williams
Chris Kaman

Deep freaking team and a dark horse for sure. One things for sure, "crowding the paint" would be a recipe for disaster against us this year.   And with all the floor spacers, it allows Kobe to 1) ease into getting in shape and not rush.  And 2) probably gets his assist total up, it also helps Nash and Gasol as well.

Kobe, Nash and Gasol creating for floor spacers and three point shooters is a recipe I like, and Blake or Farmar running the offense of the bench with Farmar's ability to push the tempo gives teams a different look, and look at the bench unit, you've got Young, Beasley and Williams stretching the floor, and Farmar or Blake dictating while still being good enough three point shooters to keep teams honest with Kaman still down low.

A bench like that can more than keep a lead for us, and with their three point shooting and "potential" explosive scoring against second units, may even ease a tide or keep us in games while starters rest.   And the lineups are interchangable in case guys like Nash, Gasol or Kobe need rest.

The more and more roster moves the Lakers make the more I like what I'm seeing.

Yea I had thought all was smooth, but there are reports that it is pretty bad progress on his part. Some less official reports claim he had more foot related injuries that the Lakers were unaware off.

pretty much, and honestly.. I don't mind it.

Give Williams 6 threes a game instead, he can play defense as well or at least he tries hard to and fights for rebounds. And is 27 as well as 6'9.

Like I said, if this guy is who we're replacing Kelly with till Kelly returns if he does I'm fine with it.

IF we sign both him and Beasley.. then we're a dark horse for sure and a team no one would want in the first round IF Kobe, Nash and Pau make the playoffs healthy and our team is in tact.  Again health is most important!   Chemistry shouldn't be a problem, but it is very important as well.

That should've been an AND-1 actually. Dwight leaned his arm/shoulder out to his body.

You are correct!   Also posted a 9 min highlight of him, starting at 2:40 is his defensive highlights.

Enjoy

More thought that Williams is there to potentially replace or D-league Kelly

Williams has only ever been a fit with D'Antoni.

He's bounced around the league since being drafted in 2006 and has never embedded himself into a steady rotation—except with D'Antoni.

The Indiana Pacers never let him crack 15 minutes per game, the Dallas Mavericks only played him 15 times and the then-New Jersey Nets lured him away from the New York Knicks only to trade him halfway through the lockout-condensed season.

In New York, with D'Antoni, though, Williams found a home. A real home. He appeared in 64 games and notched career highs in minutes (20.7), points (7.1), rebounds (3.7) and three-point shooting (40.1 percent).

Most of his minutes under D'Antoni came at the power forward position, so playing there isn't going to be a problem.

Better still, Williams was one of just four players who logged 20 or more minutes a game in 2010-11 to average at least 12 points and 6.5 rebounds per-36 minutes while shooting 40 percent or better from deep. He and Love were the only two to do so while jacking up more than one trey a night.

No, Williams isn't Love. Nor is he close. But we know he's a fit with D'Antoni.

Just as we know that Johnson is athletic enough, Young trigger-happy enough and Steve Nash unselfish enough to play in D'Antoni's offense, we know that Williams can thrive as the stretch 4 Los Angeles didn't have before.

Looks like Williams is our backup 4.

That means backup 3 is still open.

That is another stupid move. Why we need a 30 y.o. veteran, who will play for his fifth team in six years? A player, who did not play ata all in 2012 and a player, who was waived by the Blazers!!!

A power forward, who just like Vlede Radmanovic will stay at the corners and wait for 3 point shots!

We don't need that type of a player Mr.GM. We need a real power forward, who can defend the boards and make a put-backs. M.Basley is not an option too. He is too much of a drama to take the risk.Everywhere he goes, he gets waived, because of his mental problems. NO to Lamar Odom too. Another big problem.

Shawne Williams is 27 :smh:

Fyi Williams is known for his defense, hustle for rebounds as well as his three point shooting.   But it seems like you don't know much about Shawne Williams and are just ranting.

Players who can hit corner 3s are vital in MDAs system.

I don't mind those open threes going to guys that can hit them honestly.   Sound strategy when you have the team for it.

At the very least we are a team with depth, youth, athleticism and three point shooting, and have surrounded our veterans with that while also offering enough options to rest them if need be.

I've no doubt that 95% of our team can push tempo and run what D'antoni is used to running.   But the style he'll compromise for the benefit of Kobe, Nash and Gasol SHOULD also work if we build on the idea of Nash being off ball most of the time and PnR ball handler the rest of the time.

But as Kobe eases back into being in shape it wouldn't surprise me to see them using Kobe off ball more than usual if for nothing other than to ensure he doesn't strain himself.   If this is going to be the case we've built the team adequately to ensure that.

At the very least we have enough options where we can use 2 or 3 of them before needing Kobe to come back in shall they all be unviable on that given night.   Before it was "If Meeks can't do it.. Kobe you gotta go back in"

Now it's "If Young, Johnson, Farmar AND Williams" can't do it.. Kobe go back in.

Much better imo
