Allen Iverson will officially announce his retirement from basketball in the coming days, according to a report citing a source close to him.

Iverson, 38, played his last professional basketball in Turkey in 2011. Before that, he appeared in his final NBA game, as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, in 2010.

Iverson became one of the best guards in the history of the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers -- especially given his size -- and won the NBA MVP award in 2001.

“He might be the greatest athlete I’ve ever seen,” said Larry Brown, Iverson’s coach from 1997-2003 and the current coach at SMU. “I don’t think there’ll be another one like him.

“I’m sure we faced a lot of obstacles, maybe even on a daily basis, but when it came time to play, to try to win a game, he tried to play as hard as he could for his coach.”

Great player during his time with the Sixers. Hope he sticks with the NBA in some form.

He retired a long time ago, and stayed in retirement because he refused to get back in the league by playing a few d-league games before being called up.

"Bryant had come to rage against the idea that Howard's clownish disposition could overtake the locker room, the Lakers' culture, and had warned Howard that he would never, ever let it happen."

Have they ever done a 40 for 40 on him? Will there be a press conference televised or will he do it via social media modern style ala twitter, facebook, instagram, youtube, skype or whatever?

Yeah, I would like to watch it also. A.I. one of the most influential player had many people sporting the one arm sleeves and cornrows trying to do crossovers.

I wish AI remained healthy and continued to dominate. I'll miss his practice rant. :P

Hahaha!

This is hilarious. Dude effectively "retired" from basketball years ago. Desperate grab for attention now that he's broke.

5 minutes of A.I.'s deadly crossover. One of the best to ever do it.
