San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown has agreed to coach the Philadelphia 76ers, two people with direct knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports.

The people requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly until the deal was announced officially.

Brown, who also coached the Australian national team at the 2012 London Olympics, was one of several candidates the Sixers interviewed. It is the second assistant Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has lost this summer to a head coaching position. Mike Budenholzer left the Spurs for the Atlanta Hawks.

Brown replaces Doug Collins, who resigned in April after three seasons and two playoff appearances with Philadelphia.

We all saw this move weeks ago...they wasted too much time in hiring and are now against the clock to implement his system and a proper training camp.

Cause he was gonna turn down a head coaching job right?   And if he turned down a head coaching job he'd have come here instead of just going back to the Spurs right?
