Wilt was pre-Tv, let alone pre-Internet

Mj put up 55 against the Knicks

but I think 81 stands as the tops, what you think?

Single-game? No doubt.

I don't think anyone will reach 80 at least for the next decade.

What do you think he could have gotten if Phil didn't sit him against Dallas?

What makes the performance even more memorable is the fact that the Lakers were down 14 at the half. And then Kobe exploded.

Kobe played 42 minutes and scored 81 points. It is an unbelievable feat that I do not think will be matched for quite some time.

Yea I was mad during that game, but in some ways I guess it was more a message thing. Still remember, maybe Carter I think or some other player saying comments like passing the ball and all around game is better than pure scoring......yea whatever.

The way that he was on that night, I think Kobe could have gone for 90 or at least close to it. He finished 18 of 31 (58% FG). How efficient he was that game was insane and to do it in 3 quarters is just wow.

best part of that was that in ESPN magazine someone wrote an article about Kobe sitting against Dallas in that performance, hating on him, saying how Kobe would be a waste of talent and would never be remembered for anything and that Dallas performance was his only chance to do  something legendary and he'd missed it.  Finished it saying "the worst thing in the world. Is a wasted talent."

Bout a game or two later...81 points.

Never saw an article from that guy again

For sure. Runner-ups are still Kobe's performances -> 62-61 against Mavs in 3 quarters. And 61 against Knicks in MSG. Kobe isn't considered a basketball legend for nothing. It is dripping off of him.

From other players there comes to mind

Robinson's 71 in last game of the season to secure scoring title.

Jordan's 69-18.

T-Mac's 13 points in 35 seconds against Spurs.

Kareem saw Wilt's 100 pt game at the arena & Kobe's game & he said he was more impressed with the 81 pt game
