Get ready to cross one player off the Lakers want list.

The more I've been thinking about......the 2014 FA pool isn't even that great. We might be bad for quite some time

That's what big-money players do when they are coming off of their rookie contracts.

And that's what Paul George is going to do, when a franchise (the Pacers) values him so much, and treats him so well, offering the max extension.

People are going to quickly realize why the whole "Just wait till 2014" talk was dumb.

Yeah it's nice to have cap space, but it's not as nice when the players available are limited.

Here's to hoping the Miami Heat crash and burn, badly, this upcoming season...and Wade retires.

Otherwise, that 2004 class is going to look to opt in, and suddenly, the summer of 2015 becomes interesting.

Use the full-MLE, probably resigning some of the younger kids, plus making the most out of the draft.

Say goodbye to Kobe, Gasol, use the stretch provision on Nash, and change our name to the Los Angeles Tankers.

Pick up Nick Young's Player Option, and use him as our featured scorer. Sign Pavel Podkolzin, Ryan Kelly, Kendall Gill, Omar Cook, God Shammgod, Tracy McGrady, Keon Clark, Luke Babbitt, and Ike Diogu...and just shoot for the #1 pick.

C - Pavel Podkolzin | Keon Clark
PF - Ryan Kelly | Ike Diogu
SF - Nick Young | Luke Babbitt
SG - Kendall Gill | Tracy McGrady
PG - Omar Cook | God Shammgod

Welp.

I would watch every game.

So, why do you think now Lakers won't get any big "names"?

Firstly, this is a good sign for the Lakers. His contract is resonable.

Secondly, we've seen guys traded the first year after an extension, it's not really a big deal to me.

Lakers will acquire some disgruntled star, and soon. It might be Bosh, it could be Westbrook. Every season there is another storyline

And then we can't forget Kevin Love.

The point about salary space, is you can TRADE someone into it.

We have destiny over the contracts we sign and therefore we are able to put ourselves in great position to trade for a desired player.

How many teams, regret the contracts they sign?

We have no assets to trade. We had Bynum and draft picks. The well has dried up so its time to let it fill again over time.

Why would we tank next year when we don't even have our 1st round pick. We would be tanking for the Suns.

Something will come up, eventually.

I don't expect a major splash in 2014, not so say we won't at least get a nice to major FA, it will vary. Plus in two years going as far as 2016 post Kobe most likely, who knows will be the top 5 players. NBA windows are very small at times it seems, I am more concerned about the young talent we have and at least attempting to develop. As LAL I can understand the notion that people love LA, but to put all your hopes in FA, well some are winners and others are left hurting for years.

I guess because in my lifetime I have already witnessed 5 championships and plenty of playoff performances, I am very happy, although as a Raider and Dodger fan I am also humbled. Probably why I am against tanking, I just want the Lakers to be relevant as far as performance goes.

And some people thought he could be had for 10. They said "at most 10-12"

I think this guy will jump into the top 5 point guard conversation if he can stay healthy and gives the same effort that he did before he got the money.

I meant 2015.

The 2015 pick is protected 1-5 that year, 1-3 in the following two years (2016 and 2017), and unprotected in 2018.

So because these RFA's who we should have known were going to re-up with their teams are dropping off the market, suddenly we are not players for the realistic UFAs?  Lol...

As LAT wrote, its all on Kobe.  Stars have to align, but if Kobe plays ball and takes a min next summer (with a max in 2015), we could sign 2 max UFA's in 2014, and 1 in 2015 - along with re-signing Kobe to a max in 2015.  Oh yeah...Pau could do the same thing.
