Christmas Day Massacre coming up.

i think they toy with the Lakers for the first three quarters, keeping the score close, then kill us in the end.

You dont expect LA to get pushed around but the last time they played the Heat on Xmas they got worked by like 20 pts? Same result the year before against the Cavs.

this years heat team is way different from 3 years ago . this year are spacing will be better than last year because the Chemistry we will have but I know we can still kill Miami in post

I don't remember the Lakers being historically great in Christmas games regardless of the match-up, so...meh.

Sorry - Not going to happen. Unless Heat pulls a San Antonio and rests its starters. Even then it will be close.

Only other chance Lakers have is if Heat misses their key players due to injuries.

This shows you the Lakers still have a brand that people cares about even though we might be one of the worst teams in the NBA.  You think any other team will have this much national love even with a sorry team?  So for the people who said the Lakers brand is done,  you guys dont know anything about basketball.

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

^^My sentiments exactly. These NBA schedulers sure know how to make headlines. Actually, just put the Lakers on Christmas Eve against any other team and you're bound to get more than 10 Million viewers. Maybe even more.

We won the last Christmas game we had I believe against the Knicks.

But when I remember Christmas Day games that stay in my heart and memory.. I consider this the greatest one of them all

I still get chills watching this again.

^ damn that was bliss. While i'm not an advocate of Bynum, he looked so much more athletic and mobile too. Shame his knees blew out several times.

yeah actually before that second knee injury that was the one time where it looked like Bynum and Gasol together would work.

We were actually 36-9 at the time he went down with injury and throughout January Bynum was averaging 17.3 and 7 and looked on the verge of breaking out as he had just posted 42, 23, 24 and 27 point games before that night in Memphis :(

Gasol at the time was also averaging 17/9 beside him.  So they seemed to be working EXTREMELY well together.

Oh well :(    After Bynum went down Gasol averaged 20/10 in Bynum's absence and then 18/10 upon Bynum's return.

We looked near unbeatable with that combo that year before that injury.  Shame we never got to see it at full potential as Bynum after that second knee injury was never quite the same.   Made himself an all-star but he was never really quite the same or as committal on defense as he had been least not on a consistent basis.

The next year Bynum was still a 3rd option, or he'd be tied with Pau in terms of production by those months or Pau would be ahead of him.   But let's not forget, Gasol didn't play the beginning of that season because he was hurt.   So Bynum had to take the reigns early on in that season

October
Bynum 20/11

November
Bynum 18/10
Gasol  18/11

After that and Gasol became reacclimated Bynum's role became 3rd or even with Gasol but Phil NEVER played Bynum as a higher priority, it was always equal to Gasol or the 3rd option

December
Gasol 18/11
Bynum 11/6

They evened out again in January but with Bynum still assuming the 3rd option role

January
Bynum 16/8
Gasol  17/9

February
Bynum  12/7
Gasol  17/11

March
Bynum 15/8
Gasol  18/11

In April Bynum had to sit out a few games, so Gasol got the main role solely this time

April
Gasol 24/12

In the beginning of the playoffs when Bynum returned but was on one leg, but he still played 30 mins a game in the OKC series until he finally couldn't go anymore on that one leg and needed less minutes from the 2nd round onwards.

But one of our most dominating wins was when gasol and Bynum both posted  21/11 and 25/11 respectively against a young OKC team.

And in game 2 of our sweep against the Jazz Gasol and Bynum both went for 22/15 and 17/14 respectively.

Bynum never really was quite the same that entire playoff series though, but what we remember is him gutting through against the Celtics.   But at the very least he did help us during that season as opposed to people saying he had essentially "no part" in any of our successes in 2008-09 or 2009-2010 when in 2009 he played  28.9 minutes a game and in 2009-2010 he played 30 mins a game against OKC in the first round till he couldn't go on one leg anymore and THEN his minutes were diminished.   But in the playoffs his role was diminished and it was the right thing to do, guy was on one leg and Gasol could handle it, there was no point in playing him 30 mins after he nearly fell apart in game 6 against OKC after going for nearly 30 a night.

But it showed where it fit.  Bynum's role should be near equal to Gasol's or behind him as the 3rd option(primary preference) and that's where it should have remained.   Once people started trying to make Bynum the 2nd option and pushing Gasol into Bynum's former role.. the problems started.

I'm one of those people that think the lakers will surprise peoe this year. Not sure how far we can go, I have to see how the new guys fit in and I need to see how Nash plays. I know Kobe and Gasol will be ready.

Of course, I'd really like them to win on Christmas Day, but I'm not gonna put too much hope on it. Every year I do, the game goes down the toilet anyway heh
