Anyone here familiar with the original? I'm not, but I'm a fan of Mr. Tyson so I just might be checking this out.

Three words:

YES. YES. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carl Sagan's opinions were also valued in the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey (another classic).

Nah man, but I tend to usually value your opinion so I know it must be good.

Cosmos is boss, so is Sagan. One of my favorite people along with Feynman. R.I.P both.

I'm not on NDT bandwagon but I'll check this out for sure.

We would watch the original "Cosmos" religiously.  Still have all the episodes here, amazing stuff.  Glad to see someone recognizing it and trying to bring it back in one form or another.  I hope it's decent.

As I said, I never saw the original unfortunately, but damn, those reviews are practically flawless. Must've been near perfect apparently:

I didn't get into Sagan's Cosmos well after high school. It's the only DVD package I'd ever paid a fortune for ($100). But what made it so special was Carl's way of captivating the audience with his story telling & his devotion to the cosmos. It definitely felt special. Plus it didn't hurt that during that time, there wasn't much cosmos documentaries. Nowadays, there's one release every month. But none is as captivating as Sagan's masterpiece.

That said, I'll definitely give this a try. Just cause I love this sorta stuff.

Will this run for a full 60 minutes though without commercial interruption like the old version?

There's some discussion about it here with speculation both ways:

Seems no one really knows. What do you guys expect?

Ven

Let's see how Neil deGrasse's Cosmos compares to Carl Sagan's.

A lot to live up to certainly, but Neil deGrasse is a badass over here so I think he can pull it off.
