Sir Alex Ferguson maintains new signing Javier Hernandez will be in contention to start in Manchester United’s attack next season.
The 22-year-old, who joined the club before the World Cup, was initially thought to have been some way off of a starting place due to stiff competition from Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.
But following a number of promising displays for Mexico at the World Cup and two goals in two games in United’s pre-season tour of North America, Ferguson insists his new acquisition will be vying for a starting role when the season begins.
"He's played in Europe against top quality opposition and he knows how to keep control and maintain possession which is important in the Premier League.” Ferguson told Sky Sports News.
"I think Hernandez can play as one lone striker for us this season there is no question over that. He did it in the World Cup for Mexico and there is no reason he can't do it for us this season."
United boast a wealth of striking options with Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Michael Owen, Mame Biram Diouf, Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck. Although Welbeck is set to join Sunderland on a season-long loan.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to join Spurs in Giovani dos Santos swap transfer
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could finally be on his way to Tottenham, as part of a deal that would see Giovani dos Santos join AC Milan, according to reports.
AC Milan are keen to sign Giovani after the Mexican impressed during the World Cup.
Despite his performances in South Africa, the 21-year-old is not in Redknapp's plans at White Hart Lane and Spurs are keen to offload a player who has failed to make an impact in the Premier League since his arrival from Barcelona in 2008.
Sporting Lisbon have already enquired about Giovani, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Galatasaray, but the Portuguese club have money problems.
AC Milan are in a much better position to complete a deal for Giovani, as they are prepared to offer Huntelaar in exchange for the Mexico international.

Chicharito & His GF
http://www.thefinalthird.com/2010/07/09/chicharito-and-his-girlfriend/
Young Mexican star striker Javier Hernandez just scored in the World Cup and is heading off to Manchester United. What could be better right? He has a whole world of opportunities ahead of him, the only thing that make take him down is his girlfriend Lety Sahagun. Apparently Javier is completely whipped on this socialite from Guadalajara so don’t be surprised if you see some serious home sickness creep in when it starts getting cold in Manchester.
Carlos Vela, Giovani Dos Santos and Cuauhtémoc Blanco have all talked about Chicharito’s extremely faithful behavior toward his young girlfriend. Apparently he makes it a point to mention her in all his conversations and she is the very first call he makes after every match.
From what we can tell there relationship is very traditional if you know what I mean, that means no fun until you put the ring on. Leticia Sahagún, who studies International Relations at the Tec de Monterrey, comes from a very close, tradicional, socialite family from Guadalajara.
