Stretch Steve Nash.

Sign Kyle Lowry.

Sign Carmelo.

Sign Greg Monroe to a max offer, sign Cousins to max offer, or wait for Kevin Love in 2015.

Sign Kobe to min for bird rights.

Sign Pau for $8m.

Then resign Nick Young, Wes Johnson, and Kaman for depth.

Do you have any reasoning behind all of this? Especially since you want to keep Pau Gasol (lmao) and you've mentioned nothing about a new coach.

Pau Gasol is GONE

That's the only way we'd get them probably being that they're restricted but yeah I wouldn't give them max unless they have breakout seasons next year

if phil Jackson  was the coach, i'd absolutely max cousins. there isn't a more talented big man in basketball. but he's not and without a guy like phil cousins is a ticking time bomb.

Monroe is not worth the max, he's a 3rd option IMO on a contending team, a glue guy like lamar odom with some possible 2nd option potential but under the new CBA really not worth the risk. if you max out a 3rd option in this CBA you are screwed for 5 years at least

Its the only way to get Monroe. Falk and Dumars are not on the same level of expectations and at this point the Pistons are ready to move forward with Smith and Drummond.  Cousins...well who the hell knows.

And yes I am done guessing our coaching situation.  At this point I am focused on our roster. Coaching is anyone's guess because it will depend on how we do this season under MDA.

Pau should be resigned for as long as Kobe is. No question.  Shouldn't be paid more than $8m though.

You want to pay Pau 8 mil a year and give Kobe (arguably the greatest Laker) the minimum? What are you smoking?

Its called capturing Kobe's bird rights so he can get a max contract the following year while being able to offer a max in 2015 to another FA as well?

well i don't think Kobe takes a max at this point of his career. If he is able to consistently play like he did this past season for a couple years then he is.. but i think he'll take a pay cut

Cousins has the most potential of any big man in the game...juts needs guidance and good franchise to be part of and grow.

By him signing a min contract ($1.5m) in 2014 and then signing a max deal in 2015, he will average about $10m a year.  Its a way to manipulate the cap and get Kobe a reasonable salary.

This is actually not a bad re-load plan and I like that it actually fits “Kobe’s window.”

Instead of using “stretch” on Nash I’d prefer to trade him for Lowry – or keep him.

Agree on ‘Melo as well though I’d prefer to get an elite two-way player like Paul George or LBJ. But that’s hardly realistic, I think. With a player like Melo we really need to have the right system in place for him and I’m not really sure what that system is, but I think he’s been at his best playing the 4 in the Olympics, when he’s surrounded by a lot of talent, so perhaps he would really thrive in LA next to Kobe, Lowry/Nash, Pau and ??

With Melo, Pau and Kobe I think we need to get a handful of defensive roleplayers, like be a solid defensive team as well and if Monroe isn’t available, perhaps Larry Sanders could be interesting to look at, though I fear he will demand close to a max – like McGee and all other athletic 7-footers. I think Luol Deng could be interesting to look at as well.

Lowry, Kobe, Deng, Melo, Sanders with Pau, Hill, Nick Young off the bench and a full midlevel exception would the way to go.

I honestly never got why some people hate on the idea of Melo off ball to Kobe. Just generally.

They already know how to play together.

When you have Kobe Bryant you really don't need another "two way player" although it would be nice, you'd want someone that can create their own shot, find their own shot and is a deadly shooter so that when teams try to up the pressure on you they make you pay.

Now you don't want that for a POINT GUARD(after Nash retires) if you're Kobe but you want it for another wing player like that beside you and Carmelo fits that mold perfectly.

Look how effectively they were able to do it at the Olympics

And yes it has been well documented that Kobe and Carmelo both went to that Olympics intending to show people they COULD play together, not only that but have formulated ways that they would use one another if they were to play together over the years.

I'd love to see a LOT of this with even more refinement, the two man game they play would be unstoppable ;)

also realize if Dwight wasn't a coward and Stern didn't veto the trade all 4 of the people from this highlight would be Lakers

Throwing out max contracts with this new CBA especially to unproven guys like monroe/cousins even worse is giving max to a 36 year old Kobe.

That's the stuff that cripples franchises.

Cousins is arguably a top 3 center in this league, in terms of talent.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have a brain.

Getting him in the right situation, under a right head coach (hey Phil) would help him out tremendously. He has the potential to be the best Center in the league.

I get that, but I wouldn't want him right now. I'd say in 2015 or 2016
