They would be unhappy with LeBron

And they'd hate Magic for all the times he's criticized the Lakers.   Kinda like how we hated Shaq till we all realized he was right about a certain somebody

Didn't really watch him in PHX. But in Minnesota he was bad... really bad!

He hasn't had a great start to his career but that doesn't define what he is nor what he could become.

We are talking about a 26 year old athletic wing/guard who was the fourth overall pick a few years ago.  Like I said earlier in the thread, Johnson fits the mold of a Trevor Ariza/Shannon Brown player who struggled early on in their careers but became serviceable with the Lakers.

The difference with Johnson is that he has far more scoring ability than either of those two.  Working with his mentor Kobe can only help as well.

On a veteran's minimum deal, there is no problem taking a risk on him.  We could have done a lot worse.

He can interchange between SG and SF, I like it. Mitch and the FO are machines right now.

They could run him at the backup PF.

I really like this move, Another wing player. I don't feel like we're "tanking"

Damn. This is a GREAT move.

Okay, so lets say our 4 main vets play at a meh level for them.
Farmar, Nick Young, Meeks, Hill, and Wesley could all have their best years as pros.

Plus , I actually like MDA for those players. He makes PGs better in my opinion. And then guys like Nick and Meeks have the green light and Hill crashing the boards.

Plus no one is a lane clogged. Kaman is probably a better mid range shooter than Pau and has a similar style.

It's feeling like Lakers might surprise people.

If you think this offseason's signings have been interesting (good), imagine what it would have been like if Dwight would have re-signed?

LOL...Mitch may have signed 4 ALLSTARS for the vet min!

This is why I wasn't worried after the Dwight-bacle...I wanted to see how Mitch reacted and he did NOT disappoint.

SHAME on all of you who doubted Mitch...SHAME!!!!

Earl Clark was HORRIBLE before he came to the Lakers. Let's give this man the same chance.

Hope Nick Young, Wes Johnson, Farmar and Kaman BALL OUT this year...

Great thing about 1 year contracts?  These guys are playing their hardest to MAKE MONEY next year.

Bad thing about 1 year contracts?  No Bird Rights...and if they DO ball out, we won't be able to afford them.

But if we land a 2014 BIG FISH, they may take less to STAY with the Lakers...

I am out of quota >_< But I will remember these two posts so I can +1 you both.

Do what I do and save them in the RT to remind yourself for later ensuring you don't forget.

Only Jordan Hill is a good help defender and now Wes has great potential but that's it. No defensive players plus a coach that lacks everything about defense.

Guarantee K-Mart would help tremendously on that side of the ball especially, but it seems unlikely we go after him.

yo.

LA Lakers Reportedly Agree to Sign Swingman Wesley Johnson to 1-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Lakers have struck again.

Mitch Kupchak and company have been rather busy since Dwight Howard joined the Houston Rockets. From convincing Chris Kaman to take a pay cut to signing Nick Young, they've been stockpiling affordable one-year deals.

Add Wesley Johnson to the list of depth on the cheap now.

According to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times, Johnson and the Lakers agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth approximately $1 million.

After amnestying Metta World Peace, the Lakers had a clear need for an extra body on the perimeter. Johnson isn't the defender or scorer World Peace is, but he guards the perimeter well and can knock down the occasional three-pointer.

A former fourth overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Johnson spent last season with the Phoenix Suns, averaging eight points in 19.1 minutes per game.

At 6'7", Johnson can man the shooting guard and small forward slots, a blessing for a Lakers team that is not only now down World Peace, but also doesn't know when Kobe Bryant will return.

Not known as much of a scorer, he has been able to provide valuable minutes on the defensive end. Last year, he held opposing shooting guards and small forwards to a combined average PER of 13.5, well below the league average of 15, according to 82games.com.
