Says alot about me as a fan, I am not bashing him for it. Had it been another player and I'd be so critical of them to no end.

In reality I get his stance, at the end he will not make 30 million obviously, but likewise Id be surprised if he settled for less than 10 million per year. It is all about negotiations in the end, competitive nature at its finest. As a fan though it is unsettling to say the least.

We as fans also have to be aware of his value as well. If players like Jennings and Eilis in the open market can garner at around 12 million per year, then even an aged Kobe who will still average over 20 ppg, solid defense at his age, clutch, and a team leader should get as much if not more.

I completely agree, I wouldn't either if I was him take min of 1.2mil, it would be stupid....

things will get worked out, when the new CBA gets explained to him he'll understand it more, especially after they lineup the pieces they want to bring in to help him....

I don't see him taking 10, just look at what they gave Nash.

I wish we could trade Nash and have all $ off books for next year

Yep taking the vets min would be stupid.

For all we know Kobe may wait to see who they sign before saying how much he'd take.

Because let's say they signed NO ONE in 2014 just hypothetically speaking.  Kobe wouldn't return for the vets minimum, if at all.

So I can actually see Kobe waiting to see who exactly we get in 2014 before negotiating what his contract would be.

Somewhere between 10-15 million over 2-3 years is my guess.

lool, you'd think this how FO will confront him ?

Well, I would offer him a TV Show also. And start putting up #TakePaycutKobe signs around LA. :)

12Mill is the max.

GCMD's going to love this.

I understand where Kobe is coming from but unfortunately if he doesn't change his stance, this will be the last season as a Laker for him.  And I would be perfectly fine with it if he is demanding too much money.

Last season as a Laker? Lol.

Do you realize Kobe is the only cash cow for the Lakers? Even if he gets over 20 million per year the Lakers will easily recoup that money.

He was basically saying if you have a negotiating mind you aren't gonna be stupid enough to put it out there that you'll take a gigantic paycut because at least he's gonna get SOMETHING.  It's the same reason that free agents don't say who they are gonna sign with the day of.  They want that leverage.

Earl Clark should've never said what he said in the first place. His actions said the complete opposite. Lied to all of us basically.

It's about leverage. He's not stupid. Nothing new here.

He can't be too easy for the Lakers. Where's the fun in that?

Kobe will still be making the same amount but most of the money will be "under the table".    So it will be 10 mil a year for kobe but the other 15 will be under the table.

lets just hope. If not,  hmmm latez!

For the people who are saying the Lakers would get rid of Kobe if he does not take a big paycut... who will be putting people in the seats?

^ He has to save his energy for the offense and to finish games for us in the fourth. If maybe Nash, Pau, & a few others stepped it up more offensively throughout the game, he could then expend more energy there.

Kobe is taking a pay cut whether he likes it or not. Nobody is paying him $30M beyond next season.

Im sure there are teams that doesnt care if he can win the a championship or not but more about selling tickets.  You telling me those bad teams wouldn't pay him 30m when they know with Kobe, he can bring them in more than 30m profit?

Kobe still sell tickets. He is a God in china. We can sit here and say he's too old, injuries and achillies all that but the bottom line is KB24 is a brand. Believe it or not but Kobe is more popular than Lebron James in the world. Maybe in the U.S people like lebron more but outside of this country, kobe is 10 times more famous.

Oh I realize that. I do.

But if Kobe is demanding anything north of 15 million, the Lakers might look to cut ties and start building for the future.

You can laugh all you want but it's a possibility and I think it would be foolish to completely ignore it.
