Hmmm

http://www.lakersnat...014/2013/07/10/

“I’m not taking any at all – that’s the negotiation that you have to have.” Kobe Bryant told Lakers Nation in an exclusive interview at his Kobe Basketball Academy on Wednesday. “For me to sit here and say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just going to take a huge pay cut. Nah, I’m going to try to get as much as I possibly can.”

GCMD's going to love this.

I understand where Kobe is coming from but unfortunately if he doesn't change his stance, this will be the last season as a Laker for him.  And I would be perfectly fine with it if he is demanding too much money.

Kobe saying straight-up to the media, "I'm taking a pay-cut," basically means in other words, "I can't do this by myself, so I am going to take less money, so we can sign some bigger stars."

Kobe is smart. He knows how to play it.

I don't blame him for that, but come on Kobe, how do you expect management to build a winner around you when your contract takes up half the cap space?

Well, he won't be a Laker then. We can't be paying someone that is 36 15+Mill. Kobe will take the paycut.

They love taking things out of context on that site I notice.

He was basically saying if you have a negotiating mind you aren't gonna be stupid enough to put it out there that you'll take a gigantic paycut because at least he's gonna get SOMETHING.  It's the same reason that free agents don't say who they are gonna sign with the day of.  They want that leverage.

So Kobe was saying if you have to be of a negotiating mind you won't put it out there that you'll sign for the minimum cause it would be dumb of him on the business side to say it.  So saying he'd take a severe paycut eliminates any kind of chance for him to negotiate(say a 10 million 2 year contract).

That's basically all Kobe is saying.  I await for it to blown out of proportion though.

He'll take a paycut but it won't be the veterans minimum, but it will be something reasonable.

ok lets read what he said more clearly....

“I’m not taking any at all – that’s the negotiation that you have to have.”  key word thats the negotiating that you have to have...

now next quote...

“For me to sit here and say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just going to take a huge pay cut. Nah, I’m going to try to get as much as I possibly can.” <--- ok fine i'd do the same, and so would everybody.... BUT key thing is this.. he's going to try to get as much as he can base on what situation?... if its not about rings, he'll try to sign for 3 years 90 mil.... if its about rings, ideally sign at 10-12 a year, but I can see him get 15

I think he may go for 10 over 2 seasons.

But he ain't taking no veteran's minimum.  I think that much is clear.

He's obviously taking a paycut, but it's gonna be something reasonable that makes sense.  But he isn't gonna take the contract of 1.2 million and business wise it would be dumb of him to entertain it to the media as well.

Vanessa probably won't let him take a pay cut. She doesn't get out of bed for anything under $20 million.

I completely agree, I wouldn't either if I was him take min of 1.2mil, it would be stupid....

things will get worked out, when the new CBA gets explained to him he'll understand it more, especially after they lineup the pieces they want to bring in to help him....

I don't see him taking 10, just look at what they gave Nash.

I wish we could trade Nash and have all $ off books for next year

Kobe is very well off. She'll get out of bed, regardless of his salary.

Aside of its too early and it might be media thing, If he's playing at a high level, why would you ask for a pay cut?

Who are you getting in return of a pay cut? he might think like that..

Hopefully this is just Kobe not showing a weakness publicly because if he actually won't take a pay cut, I don't want him back.

Paying 15mil is fine. That's a little over 25% of the cap. But I think management will say "we can give you your money but you won't be on a legit contender for the remainder of your career, or you can take less money and we can go out and buy you a title contender. Which one you think he's gonna pick? The money Kobe makes from his contract is less than what he makes outside of basketball. After taxes and paying the agent kobes probably taking home 18-20mil of his 30mil he'll get paid. I wouldn't worry about this.

Haha yeah I know, I was just messing.

But seriously, some women only want to be with the top dog and would consider leaving them if they don't make that top $$$.
