The lastest news indicates that Kobe won't be back before Christmas. In that regard, coach D'Antoni has to make some changes in the starting lineup. There is no need to start Steve Nash at the point. Very soon, he will turn 40 and the coaching staff has to reduce his role and minutes. Steve can be more effective, if he comes off the bench for 18-20 minutes, mainly in the second and fourth quarters. That will reduce the posibility of another long injury. Nash has missed total of 32 games last season, because he was playing heavy minutes. Kobe got his injury for the same reason.J.Farmar has to be the starting point guar, along with Nick Young. Wes Johnson and Jordan Hill at 3 and 4, and Pau Gasol at 5.Nash, Blake, X.Henry, E.Harris and Ch.Kaman can form the second unit. That is not a championship roster, but there are so many players in a contract year, so they better play their A games every night.

Now that some of the first cuts are out of the way Mike D'antoni almost enthusiastically talked about Xavier Henry today

Mike D'antoni: "Xavier? Yes! He's in the mix(for starting 3 spot as well as Wes Johnson), anybody that's played as well as he's played yeah."

Seems that he can stop being political.  But if he's looking at Xavier to potentially 'start' that's a good sign.   I think Xavier should be the backup.    Meeks should be moved to inactive, this is how I'd do the lineups from what I saw last night if we're running Kaman Gasol. Till Kobe gets back.

Nash

Young

Wesley

Kaman

Gasol

bench

Blake / Farmar

Meeks(start with Young left from the starters before putting Meeks in)

Xavier

Williams

Hill

Theres your 11 man rotation

And when Kobe comes back

Nash

Kobe

Wesley

Kaman

Gasol

bench

Blake / Farmar

Young / Meeks

Xavier

Williams

Hill

there you go.  Meeks would be the 12th active guy on the roster.  Kelly, Harris and Sacre are the inactive

Makes the most sense to me right now.  Thoughts?

Maybe sacre over Meeks for some Low post defense
Williams comes in early for gasol or kaman and lakers stretch the floor before hill comes in, I think farmar will lead a running 2nd unit

Meeks better show he can get hot. His competitors at backup sg offer much more, Henry, Johnson, and young all have skill sets that Meeks cannot compare too.

Lakers have some depth. Which hasn't happen in a while.

I doubt kamn stars with Pau, but they will play together at times.

i saw Hill and Williams and i start to think maybe we should have certain units

If you have Kobe,Pau and nash on the court, they blend with Kaman and Meeks or Kaman and Johnson, or Blake and Williams when you want a blend of quick and experience

Farmar or Blake with nick Young, Xavier,Hill and Williams or meeks somewhere in there, now you have a change of pace unit that is pretty fierce.

Some games activate Sacre for his defense, I think there will be games where Meeks, Wes or Xavier will have to sit, it' the nature of the beast

Really? Latest I heared was that he has the green light to start conditioning and is also running at 100% on alterg treadmill. He said he can get back into shape in around 3 weeks which (if he started today) would mean he would be right ontime for season opener. However I think more likely he will return about 10days or so after opening game maybe for rockets game.

Odom coming back

If Odom coming back takes play time away from talents like Henry, Williams, Johnson and Kelly then why would we take him on?

Are we Landry, DJO and Harris down to the D-league and cut them?   He also hasn't been in camp either and doesn't look like he's ready for basketball.... so if the Lakers are bringing back I'd have to wonder what he's shown them, as Henry and Williams both look like better options deserving of time.

D-League?

Most likely.

I think the three D-league guys will be

DJO

Landry
Harris

So I'm hoping with all my heart and soul the three that make the Lakers roster are

Henry
Williams
Kelly

then we're set!

I think those 3 are locks, but i'd really prefer Harris over Sacre. I've never seen anything from Sacre and we have 3 starting caliber guys who can get minutes at the 5.

I need Wesley johnson to STEP UP when his time comes.

i like his defense but you can't be a liability offensively or we could have kept Metta

If Kobe is now a 20 point/6 assist guy

We need 20 from the trio of point guards

30 from the trio of bigs

And 30+ from the rest of the team to acheive that. Swaggy will give us double digits

But what about Williams,Henry,Meeks? We need Wes johnson to be able to hit 2 of 6 corner threes, while finishing on the break a couple times a game and getting to the FT line at least once a game

Agree.

I'd say Nash 15 ppg, Blake/Farmar 10 ppg combined - at least.

Kobe will get at least 20ppg - maybe 25.

Bigs. Pau will get 17-18, Kaman +12 and Hill 8-10.

Nick young alone will get 15, and then 5 from 3 other guys. Shouldn't be a problem.

The problem is on the defensive end, where I think Wesley Johnson is the key. He needs to step up.

On the curious timing of the Darius Johnson-Odom cut: DJO had an offer from a team in China so Lakers waived him early so he could accept
