Kareem: Dwight Howard is a perfect example of the fact that "potential has a shelf life." Laker fans should be patient and allow Mitch & company to prepare themselves to do some serious work in the free agent market.

Well, we were patient (had no choice really) and we got a white walker as our gift.

I think he means patient for next year.

^ He does, but to some extent, my statement still applies to now. We were patient (accurate) and we allowed Mitch & company to do serious work in the free agent market (accurate as well) in signing Christopher Kaman.

In all fairness, I don't think anyone expected the front office to do serious work with the financial restrictions we had.

Well at least I didn't anyways.

More from Kareem from an interview on Dwight

Kareem: “He gets the ball on offense, oh, my God, he doesn’t know what to do. It’s usually a turnover, people come and take the ball from him or tie his arms up. Offensively, he doesn’t get it. Hasn’t made any progress. We (the Lakers when Kareem was an assistant coach) played them in ‘09, and when I saw him this past season, he was the same player.”

Pretty bad when the best center to ever lace them up  is saying your game hasnt changed since 09. Well guess what thats true. Dwights offensive game hasnt grown at all over the years, Kareem just dropping knowledge and facts that is all.

I'm on Skip's side here. Stephen A being too kind to Dwight and perhaps a tad disrespectful to Kareem in some ways.

I think it is funny that Stephen A smith said "How would Kareem feel at 28 if someone said he was a finished product" Well considering he was averaging 30/14/4 at 28 that statement wouldnt matter lol.

Yeah, but if Stephen A goes after Howard there goes his interview buddy

Stephen A Smith has no space to try to say that about Kareem, Kareem at 28 was possibly the greatest player of all time.  In fact the entire debate between greatest of all time is 1 and 1a with Michael Jordan and himself and its constantly switching.

Kareem worked to make his game complete by 28 which is why he could still play into his late 30s.  Same can be said of Kobe Bryant who is constantly still adding layers.

I really wish Skip would have said, "that finished product at 28 was averaging 30/14/4 while Dwight is still trying to live up to 28/15 and whom HAD Kareem there to work with whenever he wanted to but he chose Kevin McHale instead?

And they've been criticizing the front office all year.  Stephen must have missed that.
