What about the Melo question?  We know we want 3 max guys next year, but is Melo the 1 we'll *need* to get in order to get LeBron to consider coming here?

Outside of NBA2k14 I don't see the Lakers pulling off landing both Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James and having a starting lineup of

Steve Nash
Kobe Bryant
LeBron James
Carmelo Anthony
Doesn't matter

I think it will be one or the other.  IF they somehow pulled off two, then Mitch and Jim Buss deserve a parade.

Unless miami has a horrible season or the team goes to hell (which most likely wont happen) he isn't leaving Miami for any team.

Melo personally to me, he isn't even a great option for us. He's gonna be 30 next season and us giving him a max 5 year contract would end badly. Melo isn't going to be a max player at 33 most likely, so those last 2 years is possibly going to be like having pau again. Underperforming player geting 20+ mill a year. If were lucky he continues his high performance but still I dont think melo is the way to go.

Also not sure how you got 3 max contracts.

nash-9 mil

assuming kobe doesn't retire and resign at least 10 mil(if not more)

So thats 19 mill right there giving us around 38 mill in cap space. We can get one big sign and maybe 2 smaller decent signs. After that were back to being over the cap.

Though if we sign mello were probably giving him close to 25 mill a year(and no he won't take a pay cut).So add that to the preexisting 19 mil and we have 44 mill in payroll for 3 players. All of those players also are at or above the age of 30. Just another reason why I think Melo is a bad decision. I dont think he's worth that money.

Kobe must take 10mill a year. He is getting 30 this year, so this is a fair request for Kobe. Tim Duncan did it so can Kobe.

Yeah Melo wouldn't get 25m, nor would he ask for it. IMO. The dude is set for life. I'm pretty sure he wants a ring though. If we could land someone big with him he would probably take 15.

Kobe, LeBron, Carmelo in 2014

And then Rondo in 2015 when Nash comes off the books...

:yikes:

Nash and Kobe will be the starters in the backcourt. Melo will be the future SF for the Lakers and the Lakers will try to bring in someone like Bosh to start at PF.

PG. Nash

SG. Kobe

SF. Melo

PF. Bosh

C. Pau

The Lakers will try to trade for LMA before the trade deadline this year. LMA might be the future starting PF for the Lakers.

When talking about having 3 'max guys', we're talking Kobe, plus 2 more, even though that would mean Kobe would actually be taking a big pay cut in order to give younger stars more salary to play alongside him.

Are we locked into the full amount of cash due to Nash through 2014? Or is it only through 2013?  Because you're not getting anything in return if you try to trade him.

Gotta have *someone* who can play a little defense, though.

I don't consider it a longshot if Stephen A reports it. He has been on the money before and quite frankly for my concern is one of the few reporters I trust from ESPN when he is reporting something. He got Miami big 3 right. And doc rivers to clippers right. He would've been more right if KG and Pierce went to the clippers also before stern vetoed the KG thing

I would love to bring in a team of LeBron/Kobe/Melo, and go beat on the Rockets.
