Well now:

ShawnFM ‏@ShawnFNBA 16h
Carmelo & Kobe did have a private dinner tonight in Newport Beach, Ca. Kobe & Melo are very close. First defection of 2014 summer?

Why does this matter and why is this just not some internet rumor bs?

This guy is a well placed source of many of the LATimes reporters and I do remember reading a few years back that he and Roland Lazenby had a legit relationship - not sure if it is there anymore, but we all know Lazenby is Phil's mouthpiece.

Not sure how well Kobe and Melo would play together.

They both need the ball in their hands... a lot.

Well that is true they do have a decent friendship, well for Kobe standards lol.

But you cannot read into these things too much. I still clearly remember the CP3/Howard pairing and the Melo/CP3 pairing.

Actually Melo is somewhat more efficient off the ball, but it varies. Unlike Kobe, Melo is pure iso, while Kobe can at least create when he puts his mind to it.

Carmelo will actually listen to Kobe. He recognizes what Kobe has done and respects it enough to trust his opinion. He actually doesn't feel disrespected when Kobe refers to him as a "little brother."

Kobe's said numerous times that Carmelo is his closest friend in the league. With Kobe in his ear, he would jump at the chance of being the man in Los Angeles and the heir to Kobe's throne.

Would not mind Carmelo here at all...under the condition that...

1) Phil is coaching or has a large enough role; Kobe's prescence is enough to keep him in check but Phil will make this guy a bonafide winner. A champion. Would not mind Rambis or someone Close to Phil either.

Carmelo is the only realistic superstar with a chance of being a Laker in the next season.

Pray for the Knicks to fail this season because when they do, you can almost book a plane ticket for Carmelo to LA.

Carmelo is the only other superstar aside from LBJ that Kobe has absolute faith in. Probably even more so. They have a brotherhood. The NBA would fear Carmelo off ball to Kobe.

Yea they are very close. Melo looks up to Kobe and knows that he is a proven winner and an all time great. Kobe on the other hand respects melo game and realizes he has a lot of potential and hopes to guide him in the right direction ala like a little brother.

I know melo loves NY and not sure if he would ever leave it, but at the rate they are going with picking up free agents and moves he might leave just because he is fed up with how crappy of a plan they have.

 Kobe Bryant is the best friend of Carmelo Anthony, there's nothing wrong here like Dwight Howard having dinner with other superstar.

Fricking Kobe lol. Yall remember this right?

Craig: "Melo, did you meet with the Knicks or Nets?"

Kobe: "He's not allowed to answer that question."

Craig: "Why?"

Kobe: "Cause I said so."

And man... Melo was cool with it the whole time. Didn't even get mad like the way I'm pretty sure Dwight would have. It's rare to see Kobe this close to another player other than Pau and Fisher. 2014 will be interesting for sure.
