True to a point, but it is mostly just in good humor and sense. Fans need to be excited over something, and Young's energy and charisma supplies that. No one is expecting a 20-5-5 season from Young (would be amazing though), but the way he talks about being a Laker, actually showing pride, that's something that people should appreciate in him, similar to Metta and how he actually enjoyed being a Laker despite the criticism.

I hope we play a zone defense. Not all the time but we have the type of team that could execute an effective zone bc we have length back there and we're obviously going to sign a young guy or two bc we still need 3 more signings I believe

he's got the skill to be a top talent in the league.

if he can adopt some of Kobe's work ethic, and work on eliminating the lapses of judgement he has during games... dude can be something special

I should say overrating his potential.

I think potential has a shelf life. But players get better with time.

I look at Tyson Chandler. It seems like it took him to get to Dallas to really learn his niche completely.

I think NY has a good chance to find his game here. I think he is a 6th man.

Nick may also help Kobe.

Obviously NY is a baller. I'm sure in a non NBA setting you couldn't tell much difference between him and Harden or Paul George.

So , as Kobe is coming back, practicing against a young guy like this, as opposed to undersized back-ups like Sasha, Meeks and Shannon, Plus a guy with speed and an on court swagger, will effectively ease him back into the lineup.

I think he's at least better defensively than Meeks and Pau. When have Meeks or Pau ever stuffed LeBron James at the rim?

Nick Young has potential to be a good defender, but as has been said it's not something he focuses on so you don't see much effort on that end aside from help defensive blocks which is why he stuffs LeBron at the rim.

Mitch I've heard has talked to him about completing his game.

If Nick ever took the time to work on his defense he'd be pretty good, he has good foot speed, good lateral movement, and has a 7 foot wingspan and unbelievable athleticism.

This is why people are so frustrated with Young, because he has all this potential and all these gifts and he would put up ill advised shots and would show flashes of brilliance but never quite take full advantage of all the gifts he has.

Hopefully surrounded by veterans like Nash and Kobe we'll see many more glimpses of it.  One can only hope.   But the payoff is HUGE if that happens, HUGE.

It's good to see Nick Young so happy to be a Laker. That is the sort of energy our team needs. Hopefully it translates from the locker room to the court!

Smh @ Flip Saunders. How dumb was the coach on that one? My goodness.

I loved the sound effects on that. That's what made it even more special to me.

if anything that Miami game as well as subsequent Lakers games shows that Nick performs best in thee big game "lights are on" situations.

The thing is that we'd like to see those kind of efforts in every game.

As much as I don't mind having a guy that wants to score 30 when playing in big games and usually brings his best effort I would love to see him bring that part of himself on the games against the Wizards as much as on the nights against teams like Miami and the Lakers.

I watched him score 43 against a Kings team going nowhere.  That's the kind of effort I need to see on the nights where the rest of the team is underperforming against one of those nowhere teams that bring max effort against the Lakers.

If Nick Young and Consistency form a lasting relationship he'll have the job offensively that Metta had, which was to be the guy that created his own shot and score to take pressure off Kobe when the rest of the team is under performing or stuck in the mud.

Like I said,  his ill advised shots make me want to hit my screen at times, but if he truly wanted Kobe to be his mentor from the time he was drafted and wanted to get the "Kobe lessons" then this may be the best thing and best team for him.
