Seems like a D'Antoni-type player.

The only down side to Chris's game is his defense. He can shoot 3s he can post up. He can actually score in different ways!!

Nate Taylor: The Lakers were the 1st team to contact Copeland when free agency began. Pelicans, Mavericks & Pacers have also shown interest. Twitter @ByNateTaylor

A person close to Chris Copeland said the Knicks have not yet reached out to him since free agency began.

I know this will sound like a long stretch but to me Cope is an upgrade of Amari.

With Kobe out for some time having Cope  and Nash run the pick and roll will keep us alive till Kobe comes back. We will need a defensive anchor to make up for his defensive gaps. I think we need to start planning without Howard!!

So they look at other free agents versus the one in their own back yard. Clark said wants to stay, so why not stick with him. He can ball. He proved it this past season. If the amny Metta, ok but don't leave Earl out.

They aren't leaving him out. They have already talked to Clark, he's just taking his other meetings.

We need a defensive assistant coach.  If we get one, I'm on board with Chris Copeland, because he's an efficient scorer that will come in and take the load off of Kobe and Howard, makes things easier.

In fact, I'm almost on board with him, regardless...because our options are limited.  I'd still like for us to look at a couple other guys, but Copeland wouldn't be a bad signing, no matter the coach or offense.

what's his defense and shot creation like?

we need a backup 3 so if he can fill that, I guess i'd be ok with it. but we still need a starter at the 3 and a shot creator off the bench

He can score in many ways, and has 3PT range on his shot.  He doesn't create for anyone, but he does draw defensive attention...enough to rattle starter-level defenders, not just backups.

Defensively, he's not there, but he's one of those players that could improve.  Again, he just needs a defensive-minded coach, and maybe a guy like Bryant and even Artest (if we keep him), to teach him the ropes.

Compared to what we've been looking at (basically just spot-up shooters), he's one we have to keep on our radar.

Called him a solid bench player once before...not really sure if that was me you're talking about.  If it was CJ, I probably disagreed because he tends to overrate a lot of young talent, and Copeland is not a starter-level player just yet...just demands some starter-level defensive attention, but outside of that, he doesn't do much else...especially defend.  It may come to him, though, like it did Earl Clark.

In other words, they are a real TEAM that has an offense built just for them, relying on a defensive anchor (who was DPOY last year) and a stellar defensive PG that can defend up to three positions on the court AND a two-guard (well, he's playing SF) that can do the same, not to mention solid bench players in JR Smith, Steve Novak (best shooter in the NBA) and Chris Copeland.

Ah, here ya go...it was when CJ overrated Copeland after just a month or so into the season last year, and LAKER jumped into the fray.
