Matt Barnes Receiving Interest From Lakers

Barnes_Matt_lac_130331.jpg

Matt Barnes is drawing free agent interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, according to executives.

Barnes played two seasons for the Lakers before signing with the Los Angeles Clippers last offseason.

The Clippers are also interested in re-signing Barnes.

Barnes averaged 10.3 points and 4.6 rebounds last season.

I would love to see Matt back in a Laker uniform.

Lol, interesting. I remember a lot of people on here hate Barnes, but I do think he could have helped last season.

Matt Barnes did make these comments a little over a month ago so this doesn't surprise me:

“From what I heard after it ended, Mike Brown didn’t want me back,” Barnes said. “However true that is but that was from a pretty reliable source that I talked to throughout the year. That was the deciding factor. Mike Brown wanted to go in a different direction and give some of the younger guys a try.”

I liked Barnes, I'd welcome him back. Didn't have enough hustle guys on the team last year.

I hate his attitude and his inconsistency. He is better than Ebanks though.

Getting him back would be a smart move.

I would too. I missed him in a Laker uni last season. Yeah, he had a disappointing playoffs for us thus to some extent leaving a bad final impression on many, but the criticism was a tad unfair since he was clearly affected by injury and his play showed it. Outside of that, during the season, he was easily one of our most rare consistent players outside of Kobe of course. He always gets after it, plays tough on both ends, doesn't back down. His passion can be contagious and a bonus for the team, especially when or if the starters get off to a slow start. Sometimes you need that spark or boost of energy off the bench to get the guys going.

All that being said however, unfortunately I highly doubt he'd consider choosing us over the Clippers at this point. Yeah, he & Kobe are still rather cool with one another, but he's also close to Chris Paul (probably more) and flourished way more in the Clippers more uptempo free flowing system with the better more equipped personnel around him. Clearly, we didn't utilize him to his best capabilities when he was here getting out more & running getting easer opportunities. His departure from us just in general seemed to leave somewhat of a sour taste on both ends and even more since we didn't really make much of an effort to keep his services. I'm sure he remembers that well as evidenced by some of his comments after he left in reponse to the time he spent here.

^ I miss him too. Mike Brown destroyed him ever since the 'slow it down' BS. That was almost unforgivable. That really hurt us big. Poor Ramon was never the same.

I'm being very cautious when it comes to signing older guys, but adding Barnes would be an exception. He plays with energy and has the ability to light a spark with our bench unit.

I've honestly always kept my stance. No flip-flopping here, but I can only speak for myself of course for sure. I do see your point though. I too was here a plenty & remember seemingly a majority or close to it completely disapproving of Barnes. Either some of the folks that have already posted in here have suddenly had a change of heart, or the haters have not quite arrived yet.

& right as I say that, there's one above me, lol.

Hmm so that means(if Metta is getting amnestied) our 3s would be Clark and Barnes?

And I never HATED Barnes... I HATED that he always got injured before the playoffs after playing like a beast...

At this point in their respetive careers, Metta's defense isn't even that much better than Barnes if at all, and we all know that certainly Matt Barnes' 3-ball is miles superior than Metta's. He's got other attributes in his game obviously, but that one specifically would be such a tremendous upgrade & relief over Metta. The defense would finally have to respect the outside from time to time and not cheat as much like when they constantly dared Metta to shoot.

I'm sure your best friend will be very happy you did this giving him all this free exposure with potential hits. That's real nice of you. Good friend. You found a little wiggle room and took full advantage of it.
