Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported over the weekend that the Lakers were thinking about bringing one of Jackson's lieutenants, former Wolves (and Lakers) coach Kurt Rambis, on board as an assistant. The inference was clear: Rambis could incorporate some of Jackson's beloved triangle offense into D'Antoni's quiver, without actually being Jackson. The Lakers were also reportedly working on bringing former Magic coach Johnny Davis -- who coached Howard as a rookie in Orlando -- to the bench.

D'Antoni was, reportedly, more than OK with the move, if it helps keep Howard -- "Mike's on board," one source said.

D'antoni's on board with running the triangle?    :yikes:

He really WANTS to keep his job doesn't he :hmm:   Talk about compromise

Makes sense though, I'm pretty sure he figured out last year that "his offense" isn't gonna work here.

The bit about incorporating the triangle seems to be mostly speculation (an assumption based on Rambis coming, more like) to me. The reference to D'Antoni seems to be more about him being on board with Rambis coming, as opposed to the triangle, though I wouldn't rule it out.

Actually, the next paragraph in that article worries me more than anything:

The Lakers were planning to be low-key-but-simple in their pitch, unlikely to mention either the additional $30 million in salary they can offer Howard over other teams, or the 16 championships that they've won. Those things speak for themselves. They were going to say, simply, we need you. Whether Bryant was going to be part of that pitch was still unclear early Monday.

They need to be convincing and show Dwight why LA's the best place for him to be. They need to show Dwight they have a plan to build around him moving forward.

They don't need to do any real convincing, the success of the franchise speaks for itself. Dwight needs babying and reassurance.

If that is the case then really why have him at all? What does he bring to the table?

If you're going all in on MDA as your coach then why not get him his style of players and run his style of offence; otherwise get someone else that has proven to be more adaptable...

Firing another coach a year after you signed him is not a financially smart decision; the Lakers have to try and tweek this coaching situation as best as they can while also maintaining financial frugality.

Frugality? 8 million dollars for MDAs salary is a pittance compared to the money the organization WILL lose if they are bad. MDA does not put people in the seats, and he will not take them to a title.

yeah I don't get that argument either. just by amnestying MWP they would more than cover that from the tax savings. Plus I think they probably saved some money on Mike Brown's owed salary after he got rehired by the Cavs (not sure though)

I still feel this was a MDA olive branch to laker fans but Rambis had no interest.

^ So what the heck's going on? Why hasn't anything been announced officially? Does he just have some sort of advisory role or something? Even then, wouldn't that at least be enough to require some kind of media announcement of news of some sort?

It's like the Farmar thing as well. They're just teasing us with both of these situations. As if at any second now it could be official.
