Lakers gameplan could be Kurt Rambis (Defense) + Mike D'Antoni (Offense) and Phil Jackson (Consultant/Leadership/Zen) as a coaching front.

There's too much going on with that proposed idea. I'd rather give Rambis full control with Phil overlooking. Maybe that's the end result.

It could work, only if d'antoni is the one who sets aside his previous ideologies the most

D'antoni could conceivably play the Phil Jackson role while Phil Jackson plays the tex winter role

But it'd be much easier to just have Jackson coach

i think the most important thing is what's physically easiest for Jackson if that's he wants to do.

Lakers will wait until other teams have made a pitch to Dwight.

Lakers will request to make their pitch to Dwight.

Dwight walks into the meeting and finds out that Phil Jackson has just taken MDA's place as head coach.

Doing it that way doesn't allow other teams to counter.  They don't want to show their hand before other teams show theirs.

It also absolves Dwight of any responsibility (regarding the decision).  Dwight doesn't get a "coach-killer" tag...and doesn't get the brunt of the PR backlash.

This is what I think would be the best course of action regarding courtship/recruiting of Dwight.

Supposedly it is slated as Kupchak selling Howard on that premise and if Lakers start off sluggish similar to Brown's start then he is gone with duties going to Rambis until they find another replacement, which can be code for PJ or not.

Can't sign anything before July 10th...even if he verbally commits before then, the Lakers have 10 days to change his mind.

Didn't think of that that's brilliant, and Mitch ninja-like  :naughty:

D'Antoni is going to be at the presentation to Dwight...He flew in this morning specifically because of this...I doubt the Lakers are going to have Phil waiting for Dwight to walk in and say, "hey Mike, your fired thanks for coming out here and btw Dwight, I am your coach now"

I hope this comes true!!  PLease! for the love of God!    If the Lakers hire Rambis, it is a sign that MDA is on his way out.  Hopefully Rambis can take control sooner than later because I am hoping and praying they will fire MDA sometime in November.

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported over the weekend that the Lakers were thinking about bringing one of Jackson's lieutenants, former Wolves (and Lakers) coach Kurt Rambis, on board as an assistant. The inference was clear: Rambis could incorporate some of Jackson's beloved triangle offense into D'Antoni's quiver, without actually being Jackson. The Lakers were also reportedly working on bringing former Magic coach Johnny Davis -- who coached Howard as a rookie in Orlando -- to the bench.

D'Antoni was, reportedly, more than OK with the move, if it helps keep Howard -- "Mike's on board," one source said.

D'antoni's on board with running the triangle?    :yikes:

He really WANTS to keep his job doesn't he :hmm:   Talk about compromise

Makes sense though, I'm pretty sure he figured out last year that "his offense" isn't gonna work here.
