Watching Access Sportsnet Lakers tonight, they are very optimistic that CDR makes the season roster for the Lakers. I think they are right, especially with how thin we are at SF.

I think CDR along with Sacre are gonna be the ones that make the team.

Josh Selby to me is the guy that SHOULD also make the team but the Lakers will miss out on because of how full they are at the guard position with the signing of Farmar, kind of like what CDR was last year.

I do expect him to make camp though.

Josh Selby has the potential to be a better player than any guard on our roster (career-wise) aside from KB and Nash, but it's going to take a patient, understanding YET demanding coach to draw it out of him.

Either that, or playing behind the likes of Kobe and Nash...but Selby doesn't seem like a guy who would listen to Steve Nash. Kobe, possibly...but even then, I don't know.

Phil Jackson would set his ass straight.

this team has way too little talent to not bring in Shelby...
CDR sounds almost like a lock, unless another SF wants to play in LA...
hmm...

So if he had the right coach or was a listener he could be a great guard but otherwise he's cousins?

Well, Cousins is still productive, statistically, as a starting center...so I can't compare the two.  Selby actually works and is never lazy.  Cousins gets lazy at some of the worst times of the game, and he takes ignorant shots he knows he shouldn't be taking.

Selby isn't quite aware of the poor shot selection, and feels like he can take over games.  He tries to set the tempo, despite being a two-guard trapped in a PG body, and it results in a sticky play or a turnover.

So if say... he went to the Spurs and Pop was his coach(cause idk if he'll make the team considering our overload at point guard although I'd love to see him make it).  Would he be the guy that replaces Parker?

So would you try to deal Blake for something and sign him up to get some minutes behind Nash and Farmar.

Well, Parker is technically a franchise PG, so no.  Selby doesn't have THAT high of a ceiling, in my opinion.  I mean...when I say he'd be the third-best guard on our roster (again, over the course of their careers), it's basically saying he COULD have a better career than Steve Blake.  What we know is that Blake has been a legitimate sixth or seventh man for quite some time.

Do I think Selby could be a starting guard in this league?  Yes.  Not an all-star, though...so replacing Parker?  Buford will have to do work and find someone else.

So would you try to deal Blake for something and sign him up to get some minutes behind Nash and Farmar.

Given our current payroll and the limited amount we can offer to FA's this season, I would.  Blake is a better PG than Farmar right now, though...but not $3 million better, because of age.  That $3 million feels like $9 million right now.

A lot of factors come into play.

Does Josh Selby have a 3PT shot at all? Can he potentially be like a Norris Cole?

Don't think he makes the team considering how overloaded we are at point guard.   And with Nick Young we don't need an undersized 2.

I think he'll be the "Cdr" this year.

But the actual CDR should make it on the team now that has no small forward and no guaranteed contracts for that position.

That and D'antoni is high on him and Sacre. So i'd count on those two making it.
