In all fairness to Mark Madsen, he is said to be a very good up and coming coach.

Under a veteran, successful coach, this hiring wouldn't be bad. But considering our situation, not something we need at this moment.

Honestly, either this move is accepting defeat and they've already heard from Dwight's camp that he's going elsewhere or its a stone set for a forward move to fire MDA.

IDK, but to begin the offseason like this me might as well amnesty Kobe and let him rest a year.  Who would want to play under MDA with this coaching staff???

At this point, Kobe probably changed his mind and asked for an amnesty on himself

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

While Shaq is out their showing DeMarcus Cousins how to become a dominate post player, MDA had to go out and hire Marky Mark to do the same for Sacre.

The only thing I can see this move meaning is MDA being pressured into hiring a post coach to appease Dwight. Problem is, this will do little on its own.

I remember the time back in 1992 when Magic Johnson announced his HIV news. I was just a young kid and i started to cry knowing that after that year the lakers are in the rebuilding mode for the next 5 years or so.  Why am I having that same emotions now after seeing this?  Thanks MDA. You're the greatest!

I think the problem is not Mark Madsen being hired. The problem is other better coach refused to work with MDA.  It shows me that even coaches think MDA is over rated.

I'm really hoping we're getting Punk'd right now. It's not too late to can MDA, still some good coaches out there.

maybe he can teach guys how to be "Charlie Hustle" type players like he was. Maybe he can mprove Sacres bench celebrations. SMFH. Once again Lakers confuse us with this news.

Refused, or knew that MDA wouldn't be coaching in LA and took a job that was ACTUALLY available?  You think MDA really hired Mark Madsen?  Or do you think Jim and Mitch with the talk of Phil hired Madsen....

It is now clear that they are rebuilding around D'antoni. Lets gun for the bottom 3 league standing. -_-

You are correct he is a very good up and coming coach and is also very well schooled as well as an assistant coach at Stanford.

And veteran successful coach?  You mean Phil?  As if he was looking for another protege?  And Madsen who is very familiar with the triangle?    While Phil is a consultant(for now)  of the Lakers?

Madsen doesn't feel like a "D'antoni" hire imo.  But it's just imo.   The two D'antoni hires that were out there for weeks with no coaching offers whatsoever are not here they are elsewhere..so it makes me wonder who is actually controlling the hires.

If Phil was our coach the Madsen hire would make perfect sense wouldn't it?

Let's be honest D'antoni isn't getting ANYTHING he wants lately, both of his assistant coaches were put in limbo for 4 weeks until they got jobs elsewhere.. if everything was his call they'd be here by now but they're not.

Maybe it's just me..but it feels like something else is going on...

Don't the Stanford men and women's basketball teams run the triangle?

Edit: Yep
