They were saying he probably felt more at freedom to do such a thing cause in his mind he already knew he was more than likely not returning or else he would've done differently. He and management didn't see eye to eye since the Rudy Gay move that brought them a scrub in Tayshaun Prince (at this point in his career) and they didn't wanna' have to pay him a certain amount so that also made it easier to go with a cheaper alternative.

Will say that having Rudy Gay sure hurt them a lot more when they faced the Spurs.

They honestly made a TERRIBLE decision of getting Prince all cause they didn't want to send Gay to the Lakers nor listen to Hollins who didn't want Gay gone at all.

Bet they wish they'd done the Gay to the Lakers, Pierce to the Grizzlies Gasol to the Celtics trade now...

Pierce at the very least would have given them more offensively in the playoffs than Prince did.

Like the old saying goes you gotta "pay" If you want Championships.

Grizzlies weren't willing to spend the money to keep Gay and thus they only got as far as they did and that's why.   Being penny smart but dollar stupid won't win you many championships.

Such a shame, I'd like to know what Marc and Z-bo think about this...

Even without Gay this team had a future, but taking Hollins out of the picture is one of the most stupid moves I've seen in a long time.

John Hollingers decision

Yea, he is supposedly a sabermetrics fanboy. I am not too sure how fast this whole sabermetrics fad will catch on the NBA but I have read a few front offices have gotten some personnel to deeply dissect their teams and prospects based on it, Hollinger being a major advocate of it.

Not going to lie, I have looked at some saber metrics for the NBA and it is interesting to say the least, but I doubt on its actual effectiveness. Same with baseball, sure you can calculate which player will produce more in a set scenario, but never, ever underestimate the effects of proper coaching.
