He was their assistant coach. I'm guessing they'll probably pay him quite cheap.

What's with Memphis's obsession with numbers? Organizations shouldn't be tailored entirely around one person, in their case, Hollinger. For us, it's D'Antoni unfortunately.

It looks like they're real serious about trying to win a championship. Their fans must be absolutely ecstatic.

I was actually hoping for one person to quote "when?", the next to quote, "where?", and the last one to quote, "why?"

What the hell, this is the big hire after firing Hollins? The same guy who helped lead them all the way to the WCF?

This is how teams on the up and up crash and burn, with bad front office decisions. Terrible.

^ Clearly sarcasm there I assume yes?

Believe it or not, that was actually my first consideration initially, but I just decided to go with the Stone Cold instead.

No it's not sarcasm at all.  There's a reason we have 17 world championships and only one other organization comes close out of all others.   One or two slip ups don't change that.

And Stone Cold is cool too :)

I get it and completely agree of course. I was just tryin' to say that even we are capable of blunders such as a few we've made recently. Obviously not nearly as much nor consistently as other franchises around the league, but we're certainly not perfect either.

Random hire. They hire a assistant coach after their coach leads them to the western conference finals. Wonder how it will affect their offense and defense and how different from Hollins he will be.

Knicks did the same thing, Grizzlies just waited till after the season.

I think Hollins "grabbing Bayless" had a lot to do with it.

They were saying he probably felt more at freedom to do such a thing cause in his mind he already knew he was more than likely not returning or else he would've done differently. He and management didn't see eye to eye since the Rudy Gay move that brought them a scrub in Tayshaun Prince (at this point in his career) and they didn't wanna' have to pay him a certain amount so that also made it easier to go with a cheaper alternative.

Ya true, but Knicks hadn't reached the ECF.

Hollins was a old-school coach and that whole Bayless thing is silly. Ever since Hollinger got there they have done a lot of changes. With the firing of Hollins and the hiring of the assistant coach, we will see if the John Hollinger hire was good. (Lionel Hollins and John Hollinger had also got into a confrontation and there was talk that the Grizzlies wanted a coach to follow with Hollingers idea of advanced stats and numbers, etc)
